Coil questions!

I have a series of questions about the coil and wonder whether people might mind answering them! Some a bit intimate.

1.What is removal like?
2.Does it affect sex at all? All positions still possible?
3.Can it be fitted with a prolapse?
4.The strings must get dirty each month with periods. How does that not cause infection? Does it increase risk of thrush?
5.How do the strings not get in the way of a tampon?
TIA!

The coil is sterile when put in, so it’s only as ‘dirty’ as your womb/vagina.
The strings are very flexible and won’t affect a tampon.
No, doesn’t affect sex for me.

I don't know the answer to 3.

Removal is fine. You lie down, they insert a speculum like when you have a smear test, they grab hold of the strings with a pair of tweezers, tell you to cough and they yank it out. Over in seconds. No pain.

The strings are as fine as dental floss. You would have to really go rummaging around your cervix to feel them at all. They don't affect sex or tampons or pose a risk of infection.

I had the mirena coil fitted 16 months ago. I had bleeding for the first 2 months but then no periods since.
Fast forward one year and I had pains in my lower abdomen.
I went to the hospital and they couldn't find the strings. I then had to have a tablet to dilate my cervix. After about 20 minutes of so much pain (just as bad as when I was induced with my first) they managed to remove it. Never again am I having a coil.

Thankyou so much for your info @DustyLee123
And @MargotBamborough

@Happytimes123456 that sounds awful, so sorry you had that horrible experience!

Im still not heard of anyone ever with a prolapse and a coil! Seems unusual when so many women have them
