I have the copper IUD and I've had it for about 6 months but oh my gosh this period is something else. I haven't technically started bleeding yet, just the initial spotting but my cramps genuinely feel like the labour pains I had with my twins. Like my body is trying to push this coil out. Has anyone else experienced this? Sorry if tmi

Yes, I had this year's ago. Only solution for me was removal.

GP has been trying to push me to have one in again recently, but I will never have one in my body again, ever. The pain was unbelievable.

Thank you so much for your reply. If you don't mind me asking, what form of birth control do you use? I liked the idea of it being non hormonal but I'm genuinely lying here holding my breath on the sofa 🙈

I had this with the Merina. Doctor removed it really easily - I think my body was expelling it anyway. I’ve heard of women removing their own.
We used condoms until I was sterilised.

Thank you so much for replying. I've asked to be sterilised after my twins but it's been refused. Which I didn't know was even possible. Apparently even know I'm 29 they believe I may change my mind. Do you mind me asking what your experience was like? Was it a painful process? Did you suffer any side effects? Hope I'm not prying too much

And believe me your partner could walk into a clinic and have a vasectomy on the spot. On that note, have you considered that option?

I had ovulation pain for a few months post op but that was all. It was laprascopic so there was some pain from the air they put in.
I had to argue very hard for it. They used all the excuses such as “what if you get divorced? “ and worse “what if one of your children dies?” Appalling.
It really annoyed me that as a strong educated woman I couldn’t possibly know my own mind. Anyway I was in having prolapse repair and asked for it to be done at the same time. I just ended up saying that my body was so broken from having children there was no way I would have more and they agreed. I was 34.
I think the failure rate might be higher in women compared with men but I’m not sure.

We just used condoms ever since.

I remember the pain from the coil, it was so strong that I thought I was going to be sick. I went to GP and refused to leave until they removed it. And bloody hell the removal hurt too. Never again.
