Throughly fed up - 3rd DVT and I'm only 39

I'm just so fed up of this. Work up this morning with a familiar pain in my calf. Had my last first DVT in 2014 and second in December last year. Completed a course of Edoxoban blood thinners in July and now it's back again.
I just don't know why I keep getting them. The consultant couldn't really tell me either, just that I was overweight. I have no history of DVT in my family and although I am overweight, I'm active. Feeling very low and have no idea what I can do to stop getting blood clots!

Should have added - does anyone in the land of Mumsnet have experience of this? I just find it so frustrating that I can't find out why this keeps happening!

Have you had any blood tests for things like Factor 5 Leiden?
I had a spontaneous DVT around 20 years ago and problems after with thromphlebitos etc

That sounds awful dram. I don't have experience of multiple unexplained DVTs but didn't want to read and run. I have a provoked DVT as a result of an accident and that's bad enough. I hope you get some better advice.

Are you on a regular blood thinner?

Mammyloveswine · 08/10/2023 11:33

I'm just out of hospital after having a third DVT... I'm 36.

Mine tend to be in my left leg deep in my groin. I've been referred to heamotology and am now on daily blood thinners for life.

You need to be on anticoagulants for life now. Also have proper screening for any heritable factors and make sure your children and family members remember to tell medical staff if they are having surgery. You may never find out the reason, but you need to be on preventative treatment now.

Yes exactly

I’m amazed you weren’t put on permanent thinners after the first one, but certainly after the second. If you had been you wouldn’t keep getting them.

Nothing showed up in the tests I had, but my consultant told me that over the next 5 years they’ll get better at identifying more reasons why some people have stickier blood. But for whatever reason, you obviously do and you need to be on medication.
