Ongoing vertigo and hot sweats....

I'm late 30s and always in pretty good health.

Suddenly about 3 weeks ago I started getting migraines on a daily basis, for about a week.

The migraines then become vertigo. First day I couldn't open my eyes without the whole room spinning and I couldn't move without being sick.

I saw a dr and was checked over but had no other symptoms of anything. Even the migraine pain had gone .
I was given a general antibiotic to cover for any unknown infection and anti sickness tablets.

The sickness subsided, the dizziness is definitely less then it was but 2 weeks after it started I still get dizzy if I turn my head too quick, or do to much around the house.
The dr has said I've been prescribed everything they can for the dizziness, I just have to wait for it to pass.
Now I've started getting hot flushes/ hot sweats when I do anything!

I really need to get back to work! I can't drive and can only do small bursts of stuff around the house.
I'm getting seriously frustrated that 3 weeks ago I was perfectly healthy and now I'm stuck at home all the time and there is nothing I can do about it!

Hi

I've had similar, I linked mine to the menopause though - and with your hot flushes it could be the start of things for you although you are quite young!

I did the Epley Manoeuvre for my vertigo and it sorted it out pretty quickly (there's lots of YouTube videos on it). Did the doctor mention that at all?

vertigomuch · 02/10/2023 13:44

Thanks for replying.... no the drs not mentioned anything about that but will look it up.

I did suspect some peri symptoms after my period changed about a year ago. But so far all bloods are normal and I'm ovulating etc my period is on time every month just a lot shorter then it was!

Did anything trigger the migraines? It’s a good sign the symptoms are subsiding. Time should heal. I wouldn’t go and do the epley manoeuvre without medical advice first. If the vertigo is due to any movement of crystals, doing the move incorrectly can make it worse.

I thought the migraines were caused by lack of caffeine.
I've just started a new job and didn't have access to the copious amounts of caffeine I usually drink....

Having started a new job and then this happening has made things quite stressful. I really need to get back!

I did the epley manoeuvre, I had a rushing noise on one side but other then that I don't think it did much.

Look up Vestibular Migraine. Your symptoms sound similar.

I have it and too much noise, light, heat, smell can trigger a vertigo attack. In simple terms it's migrainous vertigo. I was diagnosed by an ENT specialist.

vertigomuch · 02/10/2023 16:45

With my typical migraines ( head pain and nausea) I could take pain killers or I would feel better after a good night sleep.
I could carry on working through most of my migraines.

I'm not in pain, I don't feel nauseous anymore and haven't done for well over a week. Yet I put a wash on, or do a bit of tidying up I have to sit down for half hour.
I've been dizzy for over 2 weeks now!

That's how mine started.

I have suffered with chronic migraines for years.

When I first started with the dizziness they diagnosed BBPV and did the Epley Manoeuvre but it kept coming back.

It happens more when i'm stressed or anxious and then i have a cycle of the vertigo/dizziness and sweats repeating themselves.

I'm not saying it is that as you'd need a Dr to diagnose but mine started late 30s and the ENT Dr said it could also be related to early menopause (awaiting tests for this)

List of VM symptoms..

Ongoing vertigo and hot sweats....

Your migraine headaches may have "morphed" into predominantly vestibular ones. I get very hot with dizziness, I think it might be related to anxiety around loss of control and the dizziness making my brain scramble for sense and vasomotor control going crazy. You may be lucky and it just fades away. VM is often triggered during or after a stressful time.
You could try following a simple version of the migraine diet - no caffeine, no msg, minimal dairy, no red or dark alcohol drinks (sulphites) or cooked processed meats - basically keeping things pretty low histamine. You could also try taking Magnesium, B2 (Riboflavin) and CoQ10. Get the GP to check your ferritin levels, if mine gets low the vestibular symptoms get worse. I've had VM since my early 30's misdiagnosed as Menieres/Endolymphatic hydrops for many years and then Migraine Equivalent/ Migraine Associated Vertigo which Dr's now call Vestibular Migraine. It's a migraine variant.

You may have had Labyrintitis which is an ear infection that makes the room seem to spin and can take several weeks to clear. IF it continues go and see a neuro-otologist/Neurologist or ENT. VM is "wastebasket" diagnosis -given when other things have been ruled out. If it persists there are loads of migraine preventitive meds to try that often work for VM too. Hormones can play a part - have you changed birth control? some people find having a mirena fitted or going on the mini pill helps.

Didn't want to be a read and runner.. and don't want to be a scaremonger either but!

I'm 32 and had the symptoms you are describing in February this year for about 3 weeks..and then subsequently in June diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. (Post 6 month cough) The tumour was blocking my aorta and superior vena cava. Which they have suggested the pressure contributed to my 'dizziness' and sickness that used to come in waves so there was never anything specific once I went to the GP on multiple occasions.

vertigomuch · 03/10/2023 08:49

@n3vfaye really sorry to hear that, I hope you are doing ok?

To those who have dizziness come and go, how do you function?
Like I'm terrified of this happening again and not being able to work! I haven't been able to drive, do school pick ups etc
And if I keep getting it and it takes weeks to go away.... how do I keep on working and functioning?!

n3vfaye · 03/10/2023 08:53

@ververtigomuch thank you I am doing good. Half way through chemo and the tumour is virtually gone. Will all be over by Xmas.

In terms of the dizziness mine has resided now, but I was off work for the month when it all began. Mine was more of a morning sickness type nausea all day with mild dizziness.

I understand you though it needs sorting so you can function.

I hope you get something sorted x x

Lighttodark · 03/10/2023 09:02

@n3vfaye great news you must be over the moon

@vertigomuch i will pm you

vertigomuch · 03/10/2023 09:31

@n3vfaye that's amazing. Fingers crossed you get to celebrate a happy and healthy Christmas x

Thanks all for all your messages, and ideas.
It's felt so isolating. A lot of people have heard of vertigo but never actually had it!

@vertigomuch did your symptoms ever subside? I’m having these symptoms after a few weeks of being ill, it’s so frustrating as I’m tired like you in the day but nighttime comes and the room is spinning and I’m sweating and my heart is racing. I also feel like my sinuses are popping and crackling
