Stereotactic mammogram callback - what to expect?

Hi all,

I’ve had a bad year (well increasingly difficult three years). Went on hrt after shitty peri symptoms; increasingly difficult and worsening skin conditions that I’m now getting brilliant nhs treatment for as diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called pemphigus (am getting and will get better - hair is growing back yay!).

Had my first routine post 50 mammogram and was feeling all positive and then got the letter calling me back on Tuesday - what should I expect?

I’m actually doing ok - I feel really well because I’m on massive doses of steroids which make me annoyingly positive in mood. Prednisolone and another one I can’t remember. However, biopsies come with an increased risk for those who are immune compromised according to my consultant’s message of what to tell the breast clinic. Any idea why? Infection?

Any advice welcome - I’m allowing myself 20 mins a day wallowing and panicking and then boxing it off atm but gentle handholds and positivity very welcome. Thanks all.

Hi- I was recalled after my first mammogram and was very worried! It turns out there was some skin flapped over and they wanted to check that’s all it was and nothing to worry about. I don’t know what the percentage of call backs is but I think it might be higher with the first one as they have no images to compare it to. It’s easier said than done but try not to worry too much- as I understand it the mammogram is great at detecting changes before it even gets to a lump so they are looking for very early stage issues. I hope you don’t have to wait too long until your apt and it goes well.

Thanks for your reply - that’s encouraging and helps. I’ve got lots of healed blisters (have nicknamed my boobs scabby tit one and two) so maybe that’s it. I’ve also read this morning that my steroid use of prednisolone causes granulation so am at present thinking positive. Thanks again

My friend works in Breast Clinic.
She's said before now that the vast majority of recalls aren't anything to be worried about. They need to be 100% sure .

All the best OP.

Thanks - much appreciated. Determinedly positive and rational, even if I am bloody annoyed with my body mucking around atm.

I hope your appointment went smoothly and all was ok

Just reporting back with thanks - the biopsy was very well handled - calcification was extracted (wasn’t my most fun way to spend a morning) with lovely staff keeping me still and v calm. Got the all clear on Friday so am back on the three year normal review - feeling very positive now I’ve only got a bastard autoimmune disease to contend with. That plus cancer treatment would have been too much. Thanks for the support.
