Improving diet to starve cancer ?

Hi all.
that topic should say to reduce risk of cancer but I can’t edit the title…..
this may sound crazy but honest opinions please.
So a recent routine smear test came back HPV positive with abnormal cells. So I am awaiting an appointment or a colposcopy.

I won’t lie, I’m petrified and sick with worry.
anyway it got me thinking about changing my diet to reduce my risk of cancer- if that’s even possible! I know there is a lot of theories behind it.

I don’t have an unhealthy diet.
I make all meals from scratch. I do mainly follow a low fat diet but I do have a lot of artificial sweetener as a result of this. Fry light, diet fizzy drinks, sweetener in my coffee, sugar free squash, fat free yogurts etc. so this is one area I can change. I do think a zero sugar zero sweetener diet will be hard but am willing to give it a try!

i don’t each much red meat and I don’t drink much alcohol so they won’t be difficult to cut out.
processed foods like hams and cured meats will need to go…..

what do you guys think ?
my husband thinks this is a big lifestyle change and should wait for the results of the colposcopy before I decide as I may not have any cancerous/pre cancerous cells.

thanks in advance x

SierraSapphire. It’s been found for some that oats can spike blood sugar but for others it doesn’t. There is a lot of recipes for making oat milk, it’s fairly simple and way cheaper than purchasing in cartons.

id agree most alternative milks are looking UPF which is a shame.

Maybe he is. I didn't give him a label, just described what he eats, in response to a question anout using diet to control cancer

Still not a vegan diet.

People are really getting stuck on this 😂

op just described it for the ease of this post. Vegan with fish and eggs. Yes, that means he isn’t a vegan but she didn’t claim he was and nor has he. It’s just so people read it can see no meat or animal products with the exception of eggs and fish. It’s pretty obvious really…

There are maybe some people Mike who don’t get spiked by oats, but it seems a pretty persistent theme in the Zoe FB group, the Zoe podcast also identified that oats have high pesticides as well, although there are some organic ones.

There are some cancers which are associated with lifestyle factors or environmental factors and some which are not. Some have genetic elements and some are just the bad luck of the draw
Speak to an oncologist for accurate evidence based advice. They will tell you if any lifestyle changes can have any real effect
There is all sorts of nonsense on the internet about cancer which serves no purpose except to scare people and make those of us with cancer feel our cancer is our own fault or that a cure is within our own control
This is absolute bollocks
I have had people tell me I could be cured by living on raw foods, or juicing, or cutting out all carbs
Then there are the idiots who say that a "positive mindset" will help me "beat" cancer
Utter, utter morons
I know many people with cancer and I can state that this has absolutely zero impact
The truth is that aggressive treatment is what might or might not save our lives not hiding the biscuits and believing in unicorns and rainbows

What is??

That sugar causes cancer or stopping eating it altogether can prevent or cure cancer

Not stuck. Just accurate.

Op I've got cancer so have thought about this a lot. My diet is pretty good but im a bit overweight.
I know MANY people who are super healthy/slim/ vegan/ organic and I know people who live off junk and are totally obese without any illness (yet) so I think it's just the luck of the draw sometimes.

If you want to do anything I'd look at reducing 'inflammation' generally - lower sugar (refined carbs) stress, processed food etc., get enough sleep. Can't hurt.

Good luck with your results (I had abnormal smears/ LLETZ 15 years ago and all fine since!?

Sorry question mark was meant to be closed bracket there !!!

nobody has said this!!! but you may want to look into healthy gut biome and what helps/hinders this. Our diet in the UK has changed drastically since the 60's/70's and obesity IS linked to certain cancers and cancer treatment outcomes.

The fasting protocol is usually part of dietary changes. Fasting alone whilst eating burgers, bacon and fries will have no impact on cancer risk.

You'd be better off eating proper full fat yoghurt and butter, grass fed organic red meat and maple syrup.

Sweeteners are bad for you. Natural fats (walnuts/avocados/grass-fed dairy) aren't bad for you.

Over eating and undereating are bad for you.

Watchingthegp · 24/09/2023 22:40

Totally agree that sweeteners and all that kind of processed rubbish are the things to ditch.
