Any pill out there similar to Yasmin?

Hi all

I have been on contraception for 18 years. After trying lots of pills and experiencing awful side effects my doctor suggested yasmin. I have been on it for 9 years. The best pill for me!
However the gp won't prescribe it anymore due to higher risk of blood clots so I was prescribed Geradel 30/50 & oh wow. I have been on it for 2 months and I've experienced bleeding every 4/5 days that last up to 3 days, awful weight gain or water retention etc.

I can't seem to find one similar to Yasmin

Any pill recommendations would be very much appreciated

Tia xx

Why don't you try a private prescription for Yasmin via one of the online pharmacy services? Decision may be the same if clinically soiund, but also worth seeing if another doctor assesses the risk differently?

What about Slinda? It’s like the cousin of Yasmin I think.

I don't understand why your gp thinks that geradel has any less risk for blood clots than yasmin. And is there something in your family history or personal medical history that makes him all of a sudden worried about blood clots? Sounds like you need to see a hormone specialist.

DD was prescribed Lucette as an alternative to Yasmin

Thanks all. I'll do some research on the suggested pills. Thank you

& no no history of blood clots in the family at all. He says a study has recently shown that Yasmin has caused more blood clots than other pills so they won't prescribe it anymore 😭

So glad to hear he's on it....that study came out in 2012!!!!
And it's not clear that it's even a particular useful study...the risk is very small and far less than the risk of blood clots when pregnant, or smoking or etc etc.

what's the blood clot issue - age, weight, smoking, combination of these?
