Breast clinic referral what happens?

yaboreme · 12/09/2023 19:07

I've been referred to the breast clinic today as have noticed some changes.

I had a look on the website to see what happens at the appointment but it's not very clear, can anyone shed some light? Feeling a little anxious so want to prepare myself.

Thanks

Hi,
I had to go last year to have a lump investigated. I had a chat and examination with the dr first and then a mammogram. I then had an ultrasound and finished with another chat with the dr. Whole process including waiting between bits took around 2 hours I think, might have been a bit less.
Good luck with it Flowers

It's smooth and fast. I took a bottle of water and my phone, downloaded something from prime.
Saw consultant, then mammogram, ultrasound, then back to the consultant.

This is a coincidence as I was just there today. Recalled after a mammogram two weeks ago.

When I arrive for appointment I went into a room with a nurse who explained why I had been recalled. She gave me a leaflet and explained I had bread calcifications show up on my mammogram. Explained these are small crystals that can sometimes be a precursor for breast cancer.

Then went on for more in-depth mammogram.

After this went in for ultra sound with consultant who made it clear the breast calcification would not show on ultra sound but just doing a more in-depth look at both breasts for lumps etc.

Ultra sound examined by two different consultants and thank goodness for me no further action was needed.

He said the next stage would have been a biopsy which they would have done today but I didn't need one in the end.

All nurses and doctors and staff really lovely and done in a really sensitive and caring way. Xxx

Sorry that should say breast calcifications not bread !

This.

Then in my case the radiographer said she could see two masses in my breast, and that I should expect a referral letter. She then asked me if I had any questions. I said 'so I should expect surgery?" She said 'that's not my decision, but certainly prepare yourself for the possibility."

I received a letter the following day.

All sorted now. Do try not to worry. Knowing, one way or another and then dealing with it if necessary, is always best. xx

Good luck yaboreme. I've got an appointment at the breast clinic on Thursday after my first mammogram a few weeks ago.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks everyone, sounds pretty straightforward. Just a little bit shocked as tend to brush off things for myself and was expecting the GP to say nothing to worry about, took photos and then said I'll be hearing from the breast clinic. They didn't say urgent at any point.

Hopefully I'll get a letter in the post.

Hope everyone is doing ok and they get the best outcomes 🌸

Hi everyone.

Just wanted to give an update.

The appointment went smoothly, all is well. I had an examination and sent for an ultrasound, the ultrasound was clear, but I do have a cyst that for now is nothing to worry about.

Basically given the advice to keep an eye out for any changes and go back to the doctors if concerned.

Thanks for your advice 🌸

They can take the liquid off the cyst if you want.
