Horrendous bladder pain - no infection

Hi!

I have recently been having problems with UTI type symptoms however after three courses of antibiotics and subsequent urine tests, there is no infection. This has been going on a few weeks however the past 6/7 days my symptoms are getting worse. I’m having constant urethral burning pain, the urge to urinate every 5 mins, and horrible constant ( actually constant ) lower abdominal pain and severe pressure, almost like I’ve a balloon or football in my abdomen. Bending down or forward causes alot of pressure and discomfort and some leakage.

The pain was so bad the other day my GP sent me to a&e where they again dipped urine, and did a very brief scan to check if i was retaining urine. This came back clear and my bladder was fully empty on the scan. The dr in a&e has referred me for a kidney ultrasound ( as i have a childhood diagnosis of one kidney being less developed ) next week.. however I certainly feel the issue is round the front in the bladder area. Speaking to my GP for an urgent urologist referral.

I just don’t know what is wrong with me, walking around is horrendous as I feel so tender and almost like I will wee all the time! The pressure is awful along with the constant cramps and stabbing urethra 😞 I have gone really downhill and i am frightened. Just to add, the urine dips showed traces of blood but only slight.

anyone out there who could advise me please? Anyone who has / had these symptoms?! I really am at a loss at what it could be 😫

thank you

If it’s at all hormone related. Ovestin cream can help immensely x

Might you have a bladder prolapse? Cystocele. I had a mild prolapse with similar symptoms and paid privately to have it repaired. Was fine for a month or so but exactly same symptoms as you are now back so I think the pesky bladder has found another weak spot to push into the vagina. I’m now waiting to see a urologist.
My symptoms are identical to yours, I’m already on the vagifem pessaries and sometimes can go for 4-6 weeks with.zero symptoms thee. Overnight they are back with a vengeance.
Im now not convinced that the prolapse was causing the discomfort and like you, think it might be the interstitial thing. Although I would describe it as extreme discomfort/ pressure than actual pain in my case.
It is completely debilitating isnt it? My whole day and night have to work/ not work around my bloody bladder. I can’t face the thought of this for the rest of my life. I’m 66 but before this started ( last September) was fully active, out dancing, walking, travelling, doing grandchild care etc.
I also find it difficult that most people don’t “ get it”. It’s not life threatening but my goodness me it’s completely life changing.
You are very young though, so once a cause if found I’m sure things will improve for you.

you were right. Completely right. Diagnosed with a mild cystocele today. Finally my symptoms make sense. I was scaring myself silly about all sorts, such as ovarian cancer etc… so I am relieved it is this and is something that I have been reassured can be repaired. The gynaecologist suspected it before she even did the examination! I have been reffered to a urogynecologist (probably spelt that wrong!) and we will go from there.

my symptoms have eased quite a bit these past few days however from past experience I know that can be short lived and very unpredictable!

I wish you well, and hope you have a more comfortable future.🙂

Im in the doctors waiting room as we speak - really fed up of the constant pressure and supposed to be flying to USA next week
Im hoping I’m due for the next 3/4 weeks of disappearing symptoms!

Oh no bless you! It really does tend to get bad at the worst times possible! I hope your appointment goes ok. I had to cancel a femoral hernia repair surgery scheduled for saturday just gone (the 9th) as I was so uncomfortable and obviously didn’t know why at that point!

I have never been to the USA however my kitchen wall would say otherwise 😅 its full of all things america, from canvases to reg plates! Definitely a bucket list country! Where are you heading to? My current fascination is with New York particularly Times Square 😂

I really really hope you get a break from your symptoms and are able to enjoy yourself!

The doctor didn’t examine me to see if it was another prolapse as he said unlike.y - he’s given me a week of stronger antibiotics as he is certain it’s an infection. Going back to see him next week to discuss how I am, he did say if it has t I proved he will try to bring my urology appointment forward. So now I’m convinced he thinks I have something seriously wrong.
What is the timescale for your prolapse repair?

Re USA, my son and family have lived there ( Long Isalnd) for 18 years so I’ve been a few times. The first two visits were all I needed to see everything I wanted in Manhattan! Now it’s just a visit to see son and grandchildren. I’ve warned them I’ll be very inactive for my 6 day visit.
Then back for a few days and then off to the Far East for 2 weeks to visit another son. My big fear is sitting for 14 hours on a plane and then the heat which will need me to drink loads of water and be in the cycle of continually looking for the next toilet!

Storynanny1 · 12/09/2023 20:57

Ps Times Square is boring, there are much nicer parts to explore!

WhereIsMyPhone · 12/09/2023 21:39

The sensation can feel very similar to an infection, cant it? My Gp kept on giving me prescriptions like it was going out of fashion. I’ve been on five different Antibiotics in less than a month as all the symptoms matched up. It was only when I could barely walk properly because of the pressure that they started to investigate properly. I do hope you find some relief, especially as it coincides with visiting your son.. that is so lovely that you can go and visit. And then off to the far east too, my gosh you’ve got a busy few weeks, it’s no wonder you are concerned about your comfort.

I have tried to drink a bit less water ( I do drink lots usually ) as I found I just always needed the toilet.. however where you are going it sounds like you will need to stay nice and hydrated in the heat! Planning around your bladder is hard work … I don’t drive and have two young sons, so going out and about can be a literal pain! Concerned about toilets, and where one is!

Try not to worry about the Dr wanting to bring forward your urologist appointment the antibiotics don’t help. Easier said than done though, I know.

As for any repair for myself the Gynaecologist today told me I will be hearing from a Urogynaecologist in the next two to four weeks and they will confirm the diagnosis and work from there. I am hoping it may be treated with some excersises however it would be just my bloody luck if those didn’t work.

I watch a chap who records live from Times Square on YouTube, every Saturday night.. its very busy and bright and loud… my idea of a nightmare, however I am still fascinated 😄 some of the neighbourhoods and buildings are just beautiful. I love the USA its great 😀

Good luck with the next appointment, hope you don’t have to wait too long

endofthelinefinally · 12/09/2023 22:20

Do the pelvic floor exercises, every time you put the kettle on, do the washing up, chop veg. It does help if you keep at it. Google Elaine Miller.

Truffles15 · 12/09/2023 22:48

I am glad you have a diagnosis!

Drink loads of cranberry juice and water. Keep urine diluted so it doesn't irritate your bladder.

I am 32, and this is something that crossed my mind. I had been having horrendous hot flushes leading up to this ( literally just pottering around the house would cause me to have the most overwhelmingly hot and clammy skin, but have been chalking it up to milder weather. Another thing too is my periods are not as long as they once where, and also very light… mentioned to dr but no more said about it. Maybe I could bring this up again.

Early menopause symptoms perhaps … Is 32 too young?!

Ive been wondering about this myself because everything youve described is happening to me. im 37 so is that too young or is it on the cusp. havent spoken to gp as i dont think theyd take it serious

Hi, having the same nightmare since may, did you find out what it was, what was the treatment and did you recover fully? Thanks.
