A very personal question.... have I been washing my bits wrong my whole life?

As I am now heading towards the menopause I have been reading a few articles and one of them said that you should only wash your vagina/vulva with water and nothing else. (I'm a boy mum and not entirely sure what the difference is between a vagina and vulva and my mother never used either of these words!). I could never ask my friends in real life about this but I'm really keen to know if I'm doing it wrong. When I have a shower I wash with soap inside the vagina lips.. is this wrong?! I don't think I would feel clean doing this but in the article it said the vagina is self cleaning

Does no one else get smegma? I wash everyday and still get a build-up everyday. I wash with soap between the outer and inner labia and my clitoris because water alone won't get rid of the smegma. I don't use soap on my vagina opening.

Hairy bits with soap, non hairy bits with water.

What about hairy hands?

I use Savon de Marseille soap on my undercarriage. I've never experienced dryness, thrush, or any other infection.

It's an eye-opener how many people just use water. I personally can't imagine feeling clean without soap.

The vagina is self-cleaning so I leave it be.

No. I feel and am clean with water alone. I'm 58 so many years of a sparkling foof

Every woman should aspire to a sparkling foof!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Erm no! I have never had smegma in my life and I'm 54... I think I'd get that issue checked out with your GP, as that doesn't sound right to me. Do you mean up at the top, in your horseshoe/clit area? Thinking about the foof area, I can't imagine any other area it would be able to gather!
