IUDs/coils

Hello everyone.
Those of you who have been on the IUd (copper coil), can you please share your experience?
I have done lots of research but it would be helpful to have more information.
I have had mine for over a month and am contemplating having it removed because I feel like my depression has worsened recently and I'm attributing it to the IUD.
I'm not sure if that really is the cause though and I don't want to remove it if it isn't the cause as I went through so much pain having it inserted.
Thanks in advance

I used a copper coil between the ages of 26-47 and only have positive things to say about it and my experience of using them. Personally, I would give it another few months to see if things settle, a month isn't any time at all to trial something.

I had copper coil for 5 years no side effects apart from slightly heavier periods

Cycles were fine and could feel the change in my hormones more through my cycle

As no hormones in it I really liked it, have you just come off hormonal contraception at all? Could that be causing a change In your hormonal balance?

I had the copper coil for 10 years. No heavier periods for me, in fact no side effects at all. I’m prone to depression and can tip into it with relative ease, hormonal contraceptives send me over the edge. Can’t tolerate them at all, no problems with depression on the coil though, apart from the usual. Mine was inserted at ?6 weeks postpartum so if there was an hormonal blip as it settled I’d not have noticed.

Try and stick it out for a few months if you can.

OP, why would a copper coil make your depression worsen? There are no hormones involved, so am curious to know why you think this is so. I have had depression for most my life, and it ebbs and flows like the tides. Hormones only came into play when I went through perimenopause and HRT settled my mood and my depression vanished completely. (Was deeply unhappy when I had to stop HRT, although 20mg of fluoextine has been a decent compromise.)

@doublec how exactly the copper coil works is unknown. But it does. It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that it may induce subtle hormonal changes that may or may not be noticed. Nowt compared to hormonal contraceptives of course, but still.

@OwlBasket

No, how the copper coil works is not unknown. The copper coil makes the womb an inhospitable environment by altering the cervical mucus making it more difficult for the sperm to survive, as well as stopping the fertilised egg from implanting.
