Breast Biopsy advice

I am booked in for an ultrasound guided core biopsy on Friday. They are taking samples from two lumps , ( 1 in each breast).
Can anyone give me any advice reassurance as am starting to get really anxious about it.

What has the breast team said? I have had a core biopsy, but I think they do have a good understanding from imagery what they are looking at so, can sometimes be quite reassuring.

if not, then the biopsy itself is straightfoward and doesn’t hurt too much. It takes a little while to heal, a week or so.

and if it is sinister, it really is best to know, although cancerous breast lumps on both sides at the same time is not that common.

The doctor I saw said that she is pretty sure one of them is just a cyst but thought they might as well take a sample from it while I'm already there.

I found the biopsy harder going than expected, I wish I had read up more on what was involved and taken someone with me. It was not painful but it was a more invasive and longer process than I had imagined, or perhaps I'm just weedy. The nurses were fantastic and really supportive though - I had a huge bruise afterwards for ages which I wasn't expecting! Results within days and for me all clear, I so hope they are clear for you too.

I have had this done twice. The first time I actually found it quite shocking but that was because I didn't know they were going to do it until I was there having an ultrasound, I hadn't prepared myself for it. It didn't hurt at all. The size of the instrument and the sound it made is what shocked me. I can only describe it as sounding like a staple gun going off. I also bled quite a bit. The second time I was prepared for it and it really wasn't a bad experience at all. It did cause bruising and was sore for a few days. The nurses are amazing at looking after you. Good luck with your appointment and I hope you get good results.

Look at it positively that they're being cautious and want to check the lumps are not malignant. They can only do this by taking a core biopsy as some lumps appear inconclusive on both mammograms and ultrasounds, and taking a biopsy is the only to know for certain. Try to remember that 9 out of 10 lumps are benign so the odds are in your favour.

Your breasts are glands and fat, no muscle, so although you will be aware of what is going on, it won't hurt, more so as they will inject local anesthetic before taking the biopsy. It's the noise (akin to a staple gun) that is the thing that always shocks me! You might feel like Mike Tyson has punched you in the chest for a few days afterwards, but nothing paracetamol can't soothe. If one is just a cyst, they will aspirate it there and then.

Be sure to wear a front opening top on the day.

Thank you all for the reassurance/advice.
Had the biopsy this morning, the doctor and nurse were so kind and supportive. It didn't hurt really at all but now the anaesthetic has worn off I'm a little sore.
Now just the waiting to deal with!

I had a biopsy on the left breast on the 30th of August. The waiting is the worst!

It's only been a week today but feels like I've been waiting months.

I hope you get your results soon.
