Rectal prolapse help

livvy6 · 25/08/2023 16:02

I have a lot of issues with pelvic area, over active bladder, ibs, prolapse cervix, rectocele and a rectal prolapse. The rectal prolapse worries me the most because it is just getting worse by the month. I am at the point where I dread having a poo because I am scared of how much prolapse occurs and at the moment I can usually push it back in although not fully. My bowels are taking over my life, its so difficult getting the right level of fibre in my diet, too much and diarrhoea keeps me on the loo too long and that exacerbates the prolapse. Too little and constipation causes strain and pressure. I have been referred to a gynaecologist but I think they will just look at the cervical prolapse and the wait there is between 12 months and 3 years. Has anyone else had these problems? Any advice please? I have the squeezy app, am normal weight and walk daily.

Look up ourfitfamilylife (Julie Baird) and do her better body after baby programme - super gentle reparative programme to strengthen pelvic floor and restore function. Also, have you considered some of the electronic treatments?

I have tried the Kegel 8 tens machine for pelvic floor and it causes me intense bladder pain so had to stop. I will look up your recommendation now. thank you

Are you using a stool softener like lactulose? A small amount daily might prevent straining. I was on it for several months after haemorrhoidectomy. Maybe ask your doctor if they think that might be an idea.

Yes, I have tried this but it just didn't work for me. Thank you for the suggestion.

Look at an in clinic thermiva treatment perhaps? I don’t think I can have it because I have a coil, but it sounds generally amazing for pelvic health. (Although licensed as vaginal rejuvenation and then obvs touted as ‘vain women have their vags tightened’ - er biff off)

Also, I had a hideous birth and was lucky enough to see Prof Sohier Elneil in London whose kindness and general amazingness meant I had an incredible episiotomy revision. She specialises in urinogynocology. I don’t think it was THAT expensive for a consultation.

Also, pilates in general (def start with something like Julie Baird) is incredible for pelvic floor health. I’m doing Aly Diroma at the moment.

Also just started following physiofem on Instagram. If you set up an alternative insta account and follow lots of female pelvic floor physios, the algorithm will likely suggest even more. It’s a great way to get info.

As you can see I’m very passionate about pelvic floor - it’s a feminist issue! We deserve better!

Have you tried a specialist physio ? It’s helped my prolapses immensely (including recteole ) and now I use the Squeezy app to maintain it all. They seem much more knowledgeable and help you take back control. Also never get constipated!

i have a rectocele. Im trying Hypopressives. I’m also struggling to empty my bowels. I started off by eating loads and loads of fibre, and found I felt impacted all day. I seem to be better with less fibre. I read that the advised dosage of prunes is 7, twice a day. Small portions of red lentils seem to help. I’ve tried a dessert spoon of olive oil once a day. I think that helps. I might try it twice a day. I read that your food moves faster between meals if you don’t snack in between, so I’m trying not to eat outside meals. I think that if the food moves faster through your intestines then less water gets absorbed. Right now I’m keeping a diary of food and bowel movements, to try to figure out what helps. I’ve given up bananas. I’m trying to chew more. I wish I knew when is the best time to drink water: before a meal? During? After? There must be research out there about these things.

please let me know if you have any useful tips to share.
