Fibroid removal privately

Has anyone had fibroids removed privately?

I have one subserocal 6cm and It hurts. I want it gone as I've been in pain for months and months.

I don't want injections etc, just surgery. Currently at the end of a huge gynae waiting list and feel I can't go on, once I'm back at work next week.

How busy did you end up spending?
I've found a consultant for £270 at Spire Murrayfield and only after a consult, can I have a quote.

Thanks

I didn’t but if I could go back in time I would no matter what the cost.

Sortmylifeout52 · 25/08/2023 12:09

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel yes nightmare. Did you get them dealt with on the NHS then?

I would guess a couple of thousand.

I had an embolisation and it was effective.

Sortmylifeout52 · 25/08/2023 14:53

What does the embolisation involve? Do the fibroids grow back after this procedure?

Mine were dealt with by the NHS but only after an ambulance admission to hospital because I was losing pints of blood a day and then one prolapsed through the cervix which was like labour.
The NHS could have saved themselves a lot of money if they had dealt with them in a timely fashion.
In retrospect it would have been worth the several thousand pound cost to me to have gone private and avoided all that.
Of course it’s unlikely yours will develop that way but honestly why suffer the pain if you can afford to avoid it?

Basically they put tiny beads in to stop the flow of blood to them which makes it shrink. The first 24 hours are painful but it's very effective.

Thanks all
Got to decide what to do.

I really have had enough of pain and discomfort and I only have one of the little critters! It's growing though and pressing on nerves.

Sorry to cross post... @hopeishere how painful is painful? What kind of medication were you on? I am looking at getting mine done soon so just wondering? Although I have an option of having a hysterectomy so not sure which way to go.

hopeishere · 06/09/2023 13:01

I'd say an 8/10 but only for about 12 hours when I was in hospital. It was en effective treatment though. I'm peri so sporadic periods but very manageable now.

Fibroid was the size of a 20 week pregnancy by the time I saw a gynaecologist privately. Had an open myomectomy, six weeks after having a zolodex injection directly into the fibroid, where it shrank down to the size of a 12 week pregnancy

Was a total success and six weeks post op I had a Mirena coil inserted (under general anaesthetic). Best thing ever. I never saw an invoice but generally speaking the hospital stay costs way more than the surgery and anaesthetist combined. My inpatient stay was six nights

My lovely consultant said recovery time was longer than for a full hysterectomy
