Anyone had boob reduction on NHS?

I'm seriously miserable about my boobs. I have always been a slightly larger woman since my 20s, size 14 bottoms and 18 top.

I have been working hard on losing weight due to some health issues. However, no matter what I try the boobs remain.
I was teased a lot as a teenager due to boob size and have hidden behind clothes for years.
My back is an issue, disk issues. the rash under my boobs painful and I feel I look very stupid. A size 12 everywhere apart from my 36 double Gs!
I want to ask for a reduction, I can't afford to go privately. Has anyone had much luck with NHS? I know it's not going to kill me but I'm so uncomfortable.

Just been checking my local nhs website and says my bmi has to be below 27 for a year before they would consider it, but these things weigh a ton!

Tell them you’re non binary and it’s gender affirming care

It is unlikely you will get this done on the NHS. They certainly would want bmi<27 for at least a year and will want proof from an NHS physio that it is causing back pain (which if you have proven disc issues is going to be difficult to attribute to breast size). Could you save up for it like you would with a holiday or a car?

It all depends on your local authority. Most won't offer a reduction now - my own doctor appealed twice. I had to save up and pay to go privately (double H, size 8-10 everywhere else). The best thing I ever did.

I don't have the money spare to save £7K, and tbh, I don't feel I should have to when it's not like I have a choice in the matter. Also would take me many years. Guess a life of pain and uncomfortable feelings are just going to be a thing for now unless I win the lottery 😢

I did, and know others who did but this was going back about 12 years. Didn't need to 'prove' anything for the referral to go ahead. I really think it depends on your area. I heard the same things about needing to do this/demonstrate that back then but still had no issue so I do think it's a postcode thing.

Sausageman1 · 24/08/2023 15:42

There will be some local variation but all areas have massively restricted access. The nhs has collapsed since 2011 and breast reduction is one of many procedures that they have aimed to reduce access to for cost savings so other services can be better funded.

Your best bet would be to save up for the surgery you want.

I can't even get my bloody mirena coil out on the NHS. Pain and bleeding too.

I asked about this recently and was told the same about BMI - maintain healthy BMI for a year. Most of my weight is in the damn things! We all know how hard it is to loose weight. I have a lot going on in life and believe me I've tried. Sending sympathies.
