Hi I've being wondering if I have some sort of problem around food. I am always thinking about it, I always feel hungry and even if I am completely full I will still sometimes eat. For example here is what I've had today between 11am and now

Pizza baguette
Prawn cocktail crisps
6 Jaffa cakes ( one after the other )
Mayo chicken ( bought McDonalds when I wasn't the slightest bit hungry )
Medium fries
Diet Coke
Handful of salted tortilla chips ( had to stop myself from finishing the whole bag )
2 sausages mash, peas and gravy
Bottle of lucozade
( wasn't full )
Still hungry at 11pm thinking of making jacket potato with a tin of chicken curry and a strawberry trifle for after

Does this seem like a normal amount of food I am a 20 year old female slightly active but not much.

You probably just need to eat better, I'm not surprised you are hungry now, none of that was nutritious

rocksstones2023 · 23/08/2023 22:49

I'd say that's far from normal, whatever that means.

GrazingSheep · 23/08/2023 22:49

It’s a lot of processed and junk food with poot nutritional content. I wouldn’t think it’s normal to be honest.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 23/08/2023 22:50

That's just a load of junk food.

Where are the vegetables?

Ditch the fizzy juice, ditch the crisps, add on vegetables and less processed crap

ohyesohyesoh · 23/08/2023 22:51

To be honest , I could probably eat that in a day. I wouldn't , but I could easily.
I too think about food all day long. What I find helps me is not eating to begin with.
Once I start I have no self control. So, i don't hand b/f and then try not to have lunch til 3. I then find I snack most of the afternoon. Which pisses me off!
I really really have to stop myself then snacking after dinner. It's not easy

GrazingSheep · 23/08/2023 22:51

The peas are probably the only healthy thing you have eaten.

Bearpawk · 23/08/2023 22:52

It's all ultra processed junk food, no wonder you're hungry you'll be in a blood sugar rollercoaster all day.

MrHopsPortal · 23/08/2023 22:52

Did you have breakfast as well or was your first meal at 11am?

If not, that is basically 3 meals and a large morning snack - all junk but not inconceivable amounts of food.

FettleOfKish · 23/08/2023 23:05

With respect, nothing apart from the peas there is good food. Feeling hungry at times isn't bad, and you don't have to walk away from every meal feeling stuffed to the gills.

Are you able to make changes to what you're eating, instead of how much? Junk food will always give you highs followed by lows. Good protein and veg will keep you going better for longer.

I have bulimia and I eat like that, eating food even though I’m not hungry, eating loads of junk and then suddenly craving a large meal late at night, constantly thinking of food. I know my eating is very disordered and I can go days without touching any fruits or vegetables, even though I like proper nutritious meals I don’t like cooking and I always just reach for whatever is quickest and easiest to make; take aways, junk food, microwave meals etc, even if I have a fridge full of fruit & vegetables and would enjoy a cooked meal more than whatever is quick and easy to grab I will usually go for the lazy option. I remember reading a piece of research some years ago that found people who struggle with binge eating tend to overeat if the food is quick and easy to consume but actually eat less than people who don’t struggle with it if they have to put any effort into getting the food - if I recall correctly I think they had a group of people who sat in a waiting room with bowls of salted nuts on the table right in front of them and another group who had a bowl of shelled nuts on a table across the room, most people ate the same number of nuts in both situations but those with binge eating ate more when they were freely available but hardly ate any when they had to get up and shell them. Anyway, sorry I’ve gone on a tangent, but yes I would say if you’re just continuously thinking about food and grabbing quick, easy foods instead of making proper meals that could be a sign of disordered eating, obviously not an issue to eat like that for one day but if that is usual for you I think it could be an issue.
