Period - How heavy is to heavy

PeopleAreWeird · 11/08/2023 18:15

So last two months, periods have been very heavy with 5 or 6 inch blood clots.
Both periods lasting 3 weeks, with a gap of 2 weeks between both.
No pain at all.
Saw GP, done bloods - All ok, little anaemic but im already on high dose iron
Urgent Ultrasound scan booked. (End of August)

Im 100% not pregnant as not sexually active

Been off my period a week
Came on yesterday, was straight away heavy but this period is very painful and very heavy.
I have two number 5 always night time pads on and im leaking through them within an hour to two hours, onto underwear.
I dont know how heavy is to heavy and when to go to the hospital if i need to.
Tell me im being unreasonable if you think so
I understand A&E is for accidents and Emergency AND there is a junior doctors strike on…

I feel sweaty and weak but it a warm day today and i have other medical issues

So, how do i know how heavy is to heavy without wasting anyones time.

PeopleAreWeird · 11/08/2023 18:20

DustyLee123 · 11/08/2023 18:21

It could be the beginnings of it. Would you consider a Mirena coil ?

PeopleAreWeird · 11/08/2023 18:23

Thank you for replying..

After the scan depending what they find if anything i may do.

But what is concerning me today is how heavy the bleeding is and if anyone else has had bleeding this heavy and hasnt died 😂😂

You aren’t haemorrhaging, so I’d take it easy for the weekend, and see if it’s easing off by Monday. If not I’d ring the GP. They gave my DD some tablets when she had a bad one.

SnakesNLadders · 11/08/2023 18:31

My periods can be like this. Not as frequent though every 27 days-ish. They can give you tablets to make them lighter.

SnakesNLadders · 11/08/2023 18:32

Are you that heavy for a full three weeks? That’s a bit worrying.

Bibbitybobbitty · 11/08/2023 18:35

Heavy for me was super plus tampon plus pad being soaked through in 10 mins with literally dripping blood while changing them without slowing for almost 24hrs. GP prescribed tranexamic acid which helps. I am perimeno though.
Friend is a bit younger & similar, she's waiting gym appt with view to hysterectomy.
You can buy lilet tampons designed for very heavy flow (Sainsbury stock them near us)
I wouldn't panic over 1-2 hrs, you're waiting for tests anyway

Piggyisaway · 11/08/2023 18:41

I used to get through a super heavy pad in 20 mins. Massive clots..I had a fibroid and had a uterine fibroid embolization which finally dealt with it..after trying other things. Hope you find a solution soon

SquishyGloopyBum · 11/08/2023 20:39

Mine went like this when I had fibroids. I had surgery to remove them in the end.

Don't let them fob you off with the coil, they need to treat the problem first. (I say this from bitter experience).

Bellabelloo · 11/08/2023 20:52

Mine were super heavy like this when I had polyps. I would bleed through an ultra tampon, pad, period pants and jeans within an hour or 2. It was debilitating. And the pain was severe. My gynae said my uterus was contracting to try and get rid of the polyps like labour does to squeeze the baby out! Oh, and lots of blood clots too. I'd definitely ask fora referral to a gynae.

Piggyisaway · 11/08/2023 21:07

I had mirena fitted twice because it came out with the clots!

vipersnest1 · 11/08/2023 21:16

If you're feeling sweaty and weak and it doesn't pass after an hour, go to A&E. In the meantime, make sure you're hydrated and lay down with your feet raised.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 11/08/2023 21:23

The rule of thumb is if you get through 4 pads or tampons in 4 hours, seek medical attention. It could be caused by a serious infection. If you live alone I'd go to A&E now.

PeopleAreWeird · 12/08/2023 06:45

Thank you everyone
The bleeding hasnt slowed yet…

Such a mixed bag of responses here

Thank you all for taking the time and responding

I will see how i feel in afew hours, i dont want to be a drain on the NHS, especially as some people above have said there bleeding was worse than mine and they were ok

This. You were already diagnosed anemic before this last heavy period so right now your anemia is only getting worse. Iron pills take months to overturn anemia even without any blood loss.

You can give 111 or out of hours gp a ring and let them assess. At the very least they can prescribe tranexamic acid tablets which will tackle the bleeding while you wait for the ultrasound.

readingmynightaway · 12/08/2023 07:18

I would seek medical help.
Tranexamic tablets work great for me and the thought of that much bleeding is not ok surely?
Your own health can not be compared to everyone else's when you have other health conditions.
If you need care go and get it at best you can return home with the tablets to reduce the bleeding hopefully.

What's the threshold for hemorrhaging?

Whataretheodds · 12/08/2023 07:21

I think you should call 111 OP at the very least.

Dartmouthdolly · 12/08/2023 07:22

Sounds like fibroids.

Please go back to your GP OP and ask for a gynae referral.

Piggyisaway · 12/08/2023 15:12

How are you now OP?

PeopleAreWeird · 12/08/2023 17:55

About the same amount of Bleeding.
I have the washing machine on constantly

Im waiting for a 111 call back.

Thank you all

vipersnest1 · 12/08/2023 23:20

@PeopleAreWeird, have you had a call yet?

PeopleAreWeird · 12/08/2023 23:58

I called, spoke to a doctor and he wanted me seen within 3 hours and said someone else will ring me back with a time to go. Someone then rang and said iv got an appointment and said i had to be there in half hour, i couldnt be there, that quick. Its 40 mins away and i had to arrange transport.
So they said i had to have the whole thing cancelled and start all over again if i couldnt be there within 30 mins. They didnt have an appointment at a later time

So i cancelled it

The dr rang me back, said he was confused why i had cancelled it, told him that i had no choice. He spoke to the co-ordinator and rang me back and said he cant do anything due to policy and theres no guarantee i will see anyone tonight as theres only one dr and they may be out doing house calls, and to ring back at 5am for an appointment tomorrow morning …

DewinDwl · 13/08/2023 13:38
