Ovary pain?!

Hi!
I'm hoping someone can put me at ease a little or share some experiences? I've been struggling with pain in my lower right pelvic area, like where my ovary would be for some time now. The pain always gets worse around ovulation and becomes a really painful stitch like pain and makes an awful sound when pressed?! but I've been feeling it pretty much all the time at a more mild level for the past couple of months. I've also had some random spotting throughout the month.

I saw the GP and I'm having a pelvic ultrasound tomorrow but I'm worrying myself silly with worst case scenarios like cancer. I've got a complicated health history and had a rough year with both open heart surgery and gallbladder surgery and I just don't think I could cope with anything else! I'm only in my early thirties 😞 I'm obviously not looking for a diagnosis and I've been incredibly lucky that the nhs has been so quick and brilliant but a hand hold would be lovely right about now.

Thanks for reading!

Thanks @PeachF, hopefully you won't be kept waiting for too long!

I expect different sonographers just have different practices - my one was giving me a running commentary really, so at the start of the scan when she told me that my uterus looked fine she wouldn't have known if my ovaries were ok until she got to them (and it would have been a bit suspect if she hadn't said anything at all if she saw anything wrong with them, so I suppose she would have just told me!). So I don't think not saying anything at all means anything bad, if you see what I mean! Just different methods I suppose.

So I had a call yesterday from the GP receptionist and says the GP who referred me wants to speak with me regarding my results. She only works Mondays and next week is bank holiday so I need to wait til the week after. Does this seem commonplace if it's nothing serious?? I thought it would be like blood results where the receptionist gave you the results but I'm a bit worried I'll need to speak directly to a GP, unless this is normal? Also it can't be that bad or I wouldn't have to wait so long to hear. Had my smear yesterday too and got told I had a tilted womb which I've never heard before! Thought someone may of mentioned it seeing as I've had children and other smears.

@PeachF how frustrating that you're having to wait so long for your scan results 😫 as frustrating as it is, and as unpleasant as not knowing what's going on is, I wouldn't have thought they'd leave it so long to tell you if the scan had revealed anything too sinister. It makes sense that the GP that referred you will speak to you about your results, just unfortunate that they work so infrequently!

Hi @PeachF Ive been having investigations for similar pain/discomfort. I’ve had bloods done, stool samples ( in case it’s actually bowel related) and ultra sound scan. Everything has been completely normal which is reassuring (although baffling when I feel so bloated and tender for the week around ovulation every month 🤷🏻‍♀️.)

ScarlettDarling · 23/08/2023 08:13

Sorry @PeachF, posted too soon!

I would be fairly reassured by the fact that the gp is happy to wait two weeks before seeing you. If it was urgent she’d be ringing you or it would be handed to another gp to refer you on.

It sounds like the scan has revealed something, but probably nothing to worry about …maybe a cyst or something. However, I’d be unhappy about having to wait so long for results so would be tempted to ring and ask for a phone consultation with any go.

Good luck with the results and let us know how you get on.

Edwardandtubbs · 23/08/2023 08:35

They did this to me - I phoned them back and told them I needed the results as I was at increased risk of Ovarian cancer, and I was really worried about it. The receptionist was able to tell me that the scan was clear, why they couldn't say that on the message I have no idea! 'The Dr needs to discuss the results with you' sounds to me like there's a problem! They are just a bit useless at communicating in many cases.

Edwardandtubbs · 23/08/2023 08:40

Also I've got a tilted womb too which I've known about since my first smear - at my latest smear (I'm now 40+) the nurse doing it told me she was very concerned about my womb as it looked like it was in prolapse and to get it checked out urgently 🙄. Unless a gynaecologist tells you something (re tilted womb) I would take it with a large pinch of salt. I'm very appreciative of nurses but honestly they aren't qualified to diagnose these things and just cause upset and confusion in many cases.

IHeartKingThistle · 23/08/2023 08:56

Peach I hope you get this sorted out soon.

@trevthecat that's interesting - i've been having awful ovary pain especially around ovulation since I had a coil put in. Keep waiting for it to settle down (it's been 3 months) but maybe I need to get it checked out.

PeachF · 23/08/2023 12:54

Thanks for the replies. I thought I'd have a quick look on the nhs app and although there's no detailed report, there is this....

I’m fairly sure that dermoid cysts are non cancerous and often disappear on their own (I’m not a health professional though…have just done a lot of ovarian googling because of my own symptoms 😂) so hopefully you’re a bit reassured after seeing that on the app!

DirtyCarrots · 23/08/2023 23:32

If it's any comfort - I had a dermoid cyst 15 years ago. It was quite large and had twisted round my ovary. It was removed under keyhole surgery (the doctor offered to show me photos afterwards Envy), they saved the overy and I have never had any issues since! I also had 2 children and no issues getting pregnant. So very random but it was nothing serious long-term. Good luck with the wait - I hope you have lots of plans to make it go fast!

I'm actually a little more nervous as from what I've read, dermoid cysts are the ones made from things like teeth hair and fat Envy which don't go away due to what they're made of. You're born with them and They grow slowly over time.

Best of luck in your healing! I’ve just found this thread and I want to thank you for starting it! I have the exact same symptoms as you (pain in lower right side, worse around ovulation, stomach feels bloated and tender, etc) along with heavy, painful periods. I’ve been struggling with it for about a year now, went to the hospital in April and finally got an ultrasound booked for next week.

Like you, my immediate thoughts were worst case scenarios so reading your updates and the comments of others helps. Hopefully you find a solution soon!

PeachF · 24/08/2023 18:23

@Daisy523 I really hope you get some answers soon and are feeling better! It's really not nice to not know what's going on with your body and feeling so rubbish Confused
