Breast Clinic Process

I was referred to the breast clinic due to ongoing pain and had my appointment last Friday where an ultrasound revealed what the radiologist called three innocent looking lumps, one in the left and two in the right side. He expected follow-up in a few months. I saw the consultant surgeon after who said the results of the ultrasound would go to the breast meeting and they may wish to biopsy both sides but he wouldn’t worry about it at all, he thinks Fibroadenoma I’ve probably had for a long time. Today I received a letter for follow up at the breast clinic in three weeks time but nothing about a biopsy. Now I’m confused as to whether I’ll get an appointment for biopsies in the interim, whether they’ll do the biopsies at the appointment in 3 weeks or whether there now won’t be any biopsies. I’m scared to be honest, has anyone had this in the process before?

In my experience, if they were worried it was something more problematic than a fibroadenoma, the radiologist would have done a core biopsy during your ultrasound.

I have a long history (30 years) of fibroadenomas, some where biopsied, others weren't. Really for now, try not to worry, and if they want to investigate further and do a biopsy, they will tell you. It might even be that when you return to the clinic for your follow-up, they will do a biopsy. Either way, try not to worry.

I think they will do the biopsies when you attend in 3 weeks. I have attended the breast clinic twice and both times everything has been done in one appointment. I do think they know what they are looking at so would be reassured by the consultant telling you not to worry. Good luck

Thank you for your replies, I’ve had another type of cancer before so it all just feels a bit reminiscent. I cannot understand why they didn’t just do the biopsies last time I was there and I suppose I’m just second guessing everything.
