D mannose for UTI prevention and treatment

Hi everyone. Just wondering what user experience is for using D Mannose for UTI prevention and/or treatment please. There's no clear cut guidance on dosing, so would be really helpful to hear what regimes are being used. Also, any side effects? Many, many thanks in advance! 😊

I tried it - I had 2 tablets 3 times a
day. Sadly, it didn’t work for me. Good luck.

I used the powder when I was prone to UTIs a few years ago. I found it really helpful and still kerp some in the house. Great stuff

Mastersstudent83 · 04/08/2023 16:36

I have found it beneficial for prevention, particularly in combination with optibac probiotics for women. I have found the best dmannose to be Bladapure capsules. You can get them in Holland and Barrett. I only need 4 capsules a day, but they all need to be taken at once, so can be a pain. It also comes in powder form if you prefer though.

Thanks so much, this is really useful information. 😊

Didn't work for me at all unfortunately.
Oestrogen cream worked almost immediately and was such a relief!

MillWood85 · 04/08/2023 17:30

My GP told me to throw it in the bin! Said if it worked, they would prescribe it.

I use it and it works brilliantly however I take it every single day not when i would have a UTI it more preventative than cure if you see what I mean

Mastersstudent83 · 04/08/2023 21:16

Yes, I second that @hellesbells

I was utterly driven mad by UTI's over a period of about 2 years. Had so many antibiotics - I tried everything - for me D Mannose did utterly nothing and I was so disappointed after all the press about it. I did eventually try a product called 'Cysticlean' which worked (hooray). It stops the bacteria sticking to your urethra walls so it is just washed away. My mum also started taking it and it worked for her too. Might be worth a shot. It's the only thing I found that worked (cranberry tablets, juice did nothing).
They come in packs of 30 and they are not cheap but I was desperate.

anon199900 · 04/08/2023 21:33

It works for me - if I catch the UTI early enough it gets rid, but I have to take it twice a day and it has to be the Waterfall D Manoose - the cheaper stuff is no good.

It only works for infections caused by e coli.

TheFairyCaravan · 04/08/2023 22:37

It works for me

I use this everyday. I was on antibiotics for over a year but still getting utis, since I’ve seen taking this religiously I haven’t had one.

Thanks so much. I tried a cheaper D Mannose which was that effective, then after reading this switched to Bladapure which doing the trick! 😊

D Mannose didn't work for me either, and gave me such vile wind that I wasn't safe to leave the house. My husband had to sleep in another room because I stank the whole bedroom out. It sounds funny but it really wasn't because I had to go to work like it and it was so embarrassing.

Moonberri · 07/08/2023 09:51

I take 2 tablets every evening and after suffering from repeat UTIs for years I maybe get one every two years now. I've never had any side effects from them. I wouldn't be without them.

I don't believe the GP who said that if they worked they'd prescribe them. The NHS isn't exactly invested in women's health. There are lots of things you can but that are medically effective eg St John's Wort for depression but the NHS doesn't prescribe them.

My gynae/uro consultant said that in his experience they work really well for about 75% of his patients.

tryingtoflourish · 07/08/2023 09:57

I had had multiple UTIs.

The consultant urologist was the one who told me about D mannose.

Haven't had a UTI now in the five years since he told me about it.

I take one tablet every few days as a preventative. There was one time I could feel I was in the early stages of a UTI. I took multiple D mannose tablets that day and they worked completely to stop it developing any further.

A number of years ago, my GP scoffed at me for talking about probiotics. It can take time for things to filter through!

BridgetRandomfuck · 07/08/2023 10:06

I had chronic UTIs in my twenties, tried everything under the sun. Nothing worked, not cranberry, D Mannose, probiotics etc. Had numerous urological investigations, so much fun. In the end, what shifted it was them finally giving me an antibiotic that was stronger than trimethoprim to treat it - I don't know why that took years to try! Finally cleared up the deep seated infection.

I am still prone to them but in no way like it was in my twenties. The only 'natural' treatment that has any effect I found was Uva Ursi tablets that you can get in Holland and Barrett. Not a cure, but when I was taking them I got fewer attacks. What you really should get are Azo tablets - they're a US treatment for the symptoms, they really relieve the burning and pain (they don't treat the infection) that for some reason are not common here, but you can get them on Amazon. Totally worth it!

Mastersstudent83 · 07/08/2023 11:22

@Artemiswhite that's really great news! I don't know why exactly, but the difference was noticeable for me from day one. Hope you continue to get better.

choixduroi · 16/02/2024 08:59

Unbelievably effective for me, put a stop to years of UTIs. I feel so bloody grateful to whoever discovered it! Cheap and simple way to stop an awful health problem. I buy the powder in 100 g tubs but have used little sachets and they work too.
