Now this is a bit of a nerdy question...but I'm one of those people that Drs and health care professionals often hate as I like to know the reasons or research that leads them to suggest a particular treatment.
At my latest a phone appt for my combined pill repeat the nurse said I'd need a review with the dr next time because of my age (just turned 44). So I had a nosy online. Nhs website and various others say the combined contraceptive pill is not recommended for women over 50...but I can't find out why! There's no references to studies which suggest higher risks (although im guessing that there's prob a bigger risk of clots or cancer-but it's a guess!). Does anyone know anywhere that details the reasons why it's not recommended over 50 and what research the recommendation is based on?
Im interested as well because-as im not far away from menopause- I assumed HRT was also a balance of hormones, not dissimilar to the combined pill?
