Mirena coil experiences in menopausal women

Ladies, anyone have useful experiences to share about Mirena coil post endometrial polyp removal? Trying to persevere with it!

I'm 51 and had a large (2cm + benign) endometrial polyp removed + mirena coil insertion at the same time to reduce risk of polyp recurrence nearly 8 weeks ago.
Endometrial cavity looked normal. Fibroid on USS 5cm, but this is only protruding very mildly into endometrial cavity. Coil check done by GP, threads seen. Cervix looks normal, recent smears normal.

Main issue is erratic bleeding. Mostly spotting but last week had very light period that's prolonged, and just when I think it's stopped, very light bleeding then recurs some days. Only needs a thin absorbancy pad that lasts all day. No real pain issues other than mild period type discomfort. Feel perfectly well, no temp / discharge/ signs of infection / dyspareunia. No significant impact on mood.

NB not on HRT and not needing / planning to have HRT. I really want to try and persevere with the coil as don't want to have recurrence of polyp, but finding this bleeding is very annoying! Any stories of hope? Thank you all for sharing your experiences!

I'm mid/late 40s and had a coil inserted last year in the same circumstances. Polyp removed and coil inserted, under general anaesthetic. I hated the first few months and regretted having it done. Random spotting and unpredictable (but light) bleeding plus i am absolutely terrified of having it taken out when the time comes. However, it all settled down somewhere between 3 and 5 months. My consultant said to give it 6 months before making a decision to take it out, as it can take that long for your body to adapt. Now I don't have any bleeding at all and I find that very convenient, particularly because my periods had become very heavy. I still have the fear about having it removed though!

I haven't had polyp removal but I have a significant fibroid and endometriosis. I'm menopausal and I had a Mirena inserted after my DD's birth. I'm on my third one.

I found it took about 6 months before everything settled down on the Mirena. I had the constant spotting and sore boobs, and then somewhere between 4 and 6 months it all cleared up and I didn't know myself.

Give it some time, 8 weeks is still early days. I had a particularly short, 24 day cycle with heavy bleeding and pain for at least 7 days in that 24. Some spotting was a delight after that. If it doesn't suit you, the coil can be removed.

Thanks so much for helpful advice. I've had coils fitted before (copper ones) and it's easy peasy having them removed. They put in a speculum, like when you have a smear, tell you to cough, and in that time, it's out! I hope that helps reassure!

Thanks, that's good to hear!

I'm 56 and my second one has been in for about 8 years now so I was early 40s when I first had one. I had heavy periods then. It did take about 6 months to settle down, but then that was it, literally one or two days a year of very light spotting and the occasional mild cramp, it's been brilliant. Getting it changed wasn't too bad either.
