Pregnancy belly still here 17 months postpartum

So I still look very pregnant 17 months after my second baby, both c sections. I have been doing postnatal pilates and seen two women’s health physios (one NHS, one private) and done all the exercises. Definitely seen a reduction but still look very pregnant. Haven’t gained or lost any weight, pretty constant there.
Been to GP, had full bloods done (ovarian cancer negative, diabetes negative, everything else in the normal range ) and referred for trans vaginal ultrasound which also showed everything to be totally normal. I have a small umbilical hernia. The GP is at a total loss as to where we go from here and I obviously have no clue either.
is this going to go away on its own….eventually….or am I doomed to dressing in maternity clothes for the rest of my days?!
Any suggestions for what type of expert I could ask to be referred to next?

How much do you weight? Did you gain a lot?

Maternityleavelady · 20/07/2023 10:50

I weigh around 80kg which is the same as before I was pregnant. So there is a small amount of fat on the stomach area and the rest of my body but my overall weight and dress size hasn’t changed - except for clothes which are tight around the stomach no longer fit.
I had a large diastasis recti (3cm gap) which I have reduced gradually (down to 0.5cm now) through physio and postnatal pilates, but everything still hangs forward like a pregnant belly. It feels hard like my organs are hanging forward when I stand up, and more loose from the stretched skin etc when I lie on my back and the organs sort of fall back into place.
I am due to go back to the GP but I don’t know what they can do except tell me to keep doing the physio.
but I feel 17 months is too long. Will I need surgery to correct everything? Not sure I could even get that on the NHS as it is essentially cosmetic (although I guess also has physical implications if my back is weak as a result of a weak core).

And no I didn’t really gain or lose any weight with either pregnancy.

is it just a small belly you have or do you actually look pregnant? Have you also done physio and postnatal pilates or similar and just resigned yourself to being unable to change it?

I am in proportion except for my belly which looks absolutely pregnant. I am still having to wear maternity jeans, loose flowing tops and dresses etc in an effort to disguise it

Same, 216 months later.

When you say you look pregnant are we talking 3 months gone or full term? I've also had 2 c-sections, my second was 8 months ago and I still definitely carry my weight on my tummy and have a bit of an overhang but I wouldn't say I look pregnant. To be honest I still have a bit of weight to lose so was hoping it would go down as I lose the weight.

Have you worked out what the issue is yet? I am also 2 years postpartum, I still look 6 months pregnant. I have been to see so many specialists, and been checked 4 times for diastasis recti which I’ve been told I do not have. I have also been doing exercises with a physio for months now and see no changes. My Doctor’s are also at loss on what to do next. It’s very depressing I get asked if I am pregnant all the time and my self esteem is very low because of it. Is surgery the only option here?

Maternityleavelady · 15/05/2026 06:45

Hi all, I am now 4 years postpartum and still look pregnant (maybe 5-6 months pregnant). I can’t see if ever changing now to be honest but I continue to exercise (weights/pilates/yoga/swimming) and I feel stronger now but look much the same.
