Hi
So before I start, I know a doctor is who I should talk to, but I have. I have some medical background myself aswell, and honestly I know a community of women are probably going to be more help because im out of ideas.
iv had chronic itching below, thrush like symptoms, at times spreads to my bum too. Itching, which then causes soreness cos i itch in my sleep, and a thick discharge not coming out asin it’s in my underwear but it’s present around the area, I notice it when I cave in and have to itch.
Iv tried thrush treatment several times, BV treatment many times, no soaps, no washing powder ecen, keeping clean with water, not cleaning and letting it do its own thing, iv taken metronidazole orally as I read about TRICHOMONAS which is a parasitic infection once thought to be std but can be caught from towels, pads from them bathroom machines if theyr unsealed and in sanitary etc. I convinced my gp to give me the vaginal metronidazole gel after I finished my oral course as it wasn’t better. Iv tried anti itch creams, iv tried anti fungal treatment, only wear cotton, let air get there as much as possible and keep it dry (you know what I mean lol like after shower endure dried properly) I have tried natural remedies coconut oil, almond oil, hemp oil, iv tried vaginsl biotics (oral ones) . It’s hard when iv caved in & itched and it’s so sore and broken skin but I can’t put sudo on because I’m scared to put anything on. I haven’t had intercourse protected or unprotected since a year (ish) before this started. Iv tried changing my diet, new mattres & duvet even. Really clutching at straws here. I am on codine so do at times get very mild hemmeroids so ino that explains anal itching but it’s vag too, and the discharge too. Im constantly irritated but mostly at night. It’s been going on for months now, I met someone and had to end it I was too embarrassed to be intimate. I don’t think there’s an odour but I know you don’t always notice your own. I have done std tests now even though it started aboit a year after I last had intercourse. I know they will be negative. My gp is like well youv had the metronidazole so do std test if negative then just use vagisil itch cream. That isn’t good enough. Can anyone think of anything? Iv not given birth so not a birth related issue. Im just reading up on lichen sclerosus, mentioned to my gp who almost scoffed at me. I can’t even have my smear because of it, because don’t know what it is. My periods are regular but I can’t even wear a pad or period knickers it’s so sore I’m having to use a rolled up extra soft face cleansing towel in my underwear luckily I work from home!!!
sorry for TMI but I know an army of women are my best chance of support or advice at this point.
thanks for reading this long essay. Im so desperate to get this sorted x

Surely they should do the smear and test it? Or do they literally only test for hpv or whatever?

How old are you?

I got awful 'papercut fanny' caused by itching when my blood glucose was raised, apparently it can change your urine, causing irritation, so that could be something you could look in to?

ThisWomansWorkNeverEnds · 17/07/2023 01:08

Could it be lichen sclerosis? I'd never heard of it, till recently, it can cause a lot of itching. Need to get a steroid cream prescribed

pnutter · 17/07/2023 01:10

LS

This.

Easily remedied with betnovate see the nurse at the surgery

LadyLolaRuben · 17/07/2023 21:25

Its sounds like either LS and or your PH balance is off

Klymr · 17/07/2023 23:09

Thank you All. My gp surgery basically said sounds like an std do std tests (pay for them myself online which I have) I suggested LS and was told it’s rare and almost scoffed at. Im hoping I can squire the cream for this myself.

i knew I could rely on the sisterhood to make me feel not crazy about this.

have lovely weeks my luvs xxx

Im 30 and yesss ino the feeling when you itch then wee. It feels just like paper cut fanny haha I feel so seen. Im going to go to a male gp about it and refuse to see the lady gp. I find men dont try to pretend to know more about my vagina than I do (well men doctors) whereas women ones can come across this way.
she even asked if I was sure I hadn’t had sex in the time frame I had given. “Nothing atall? No sexual contact?? Doesnr have to be penetration?? - you’re absolutely sure?”

like ??? Yes. Believe it or not a 30 year old woman can not have any action for a year and a half, and be absolutely sure about it.

im sure people do lie though so I get it x

Did the surgery examine you?

OneMoreCookieMonster · 18/07/2023 00:35

Weirdly could it be thread worms? They cause itchy bums and vaginas as the crawl there to lay eggs? Doesn't explain the discharge though unless that from constant itching and the skin trying to heal.

Maybe have a peek during your next bowl movement. Especially it itching is worse st night

sashh · 18/07/2023 00:40

Have you checked your blood glucose? It's s symptom of type 2 diabetes in women.

The GP scoffed at you?? Did they actually examine you? Maybe Lichens scleorosus is rare but doesn't mean to say it doesn't exist!
I hadn't heard of it until my mother was diagnosed with it, after enquiring it seems to be something that does happen often but maybe because some woman put up with things for ages, it doesn't get picked up.
Definitely go back and insist on and examination and steroid cream at least to see if it works.

Klymr · 23/07/2023 05:23

Hello all,

update: I acquired my own cream as recommended earlier in the thread, a steroid cream called Betnovate. I bought from an online pharmacy who gave me a quick consultation then I received a few days ago. And I have to say I have noticed a difference.
so thank you so much all.
4 gp appointments, 2 rounds of unnecessary anti biotics and 3 unnecessary std tests… and all I had to do was turn to the internet mums. Thanks so much for advice & taking me seriously unlike gp surgery x

Please inform your surgery of this. You should still be seen in person. It's appalling that they've wasted time and money like this.

NoLeaveIt · 23/07/2023 13:14

Be really careful not to over use steroid cream in that area OP as it thins the skin so should only be used for a short period of time.

justasking111 · 23/07/2023 16:35

I had to use it twice a day for two weeks, then every other day for two weeks. Then stop. Use the tiniest amount. It does thin the skin. But goodness it does work. I have another tube in the cupboard just in case but I haven't needed it. The cycle is broken

ThrushHelp · 29/11/2023 10:38

Could it be 'Chronic Thrush' which is NOT a chronic infection it is an overreaction of your body to low levels of yeast: https://medicinetoday.com.au/system/files/pdf/medicine_today/article/MT2014-02-033-FISCHER.pdf

It doesn't show up in tests because your flora is normal, it's a weird immune response.

This is what I think I have and I'm on the hunt for a doctor who can help me to look into it.
