Fertility affected by Nursing

I can't find any reputable information online about the long term affects of Nursing on fertility. Most sources speak about nursing a newborn - 6 month old.
Not much on fertility and nurisng a toddler. Especially toddlers who nursing looooads.

I have started weaning my 20month old. I am done. Totally over it and he has started to cooperate. However some days nothing works and he is a mess.

Most sources online talk about how nursing toddlers feed leas frequently so shouldnt affect your fertility but mine was feeding 5-7 times a day and it night 2-3 times.

Yes my periods returned after 6 weeks postpartum irregular but usually monthly. TTC and has been tricky as irregular length cycles and no luck past 6 months.

I am hoping once fully weaned things do settle hormone wise and it will happen.
But just curious if others know if this is the case or had any experince.
Thanks.

Update

I have spoken to a fertility expert as well as a few Mums in real life who co firmed that long term nursing on demand including night feeds affects fertility even though cycles are back. Prolactin is the culprit it resuces progeatrone therefore hindering successful concwpriom from going further.
I wish this was more widespread and spoken about and Drs would speak up.

but throughout history and in many places still now, 'prolonged' breastfeeding is a method for spacing births, surely you know this? hence why royalty/nobility used wet nurses so the wives could keep on producing heirs
Drs don't 'speak up' because in the UK at least its vanishingly rare for any one to breastfeed past six months.
If your child is 'starting to co operate then you have made a start. I'd concentrate on cutting out the night feeds as this will benefit both of you in terms of sleep.

This is something I wondered about when ds was barely breastfeeding and my period still hadn't come back. I only just got mine last month at 23mo pp
I couldn't find any information on the long term effects as I think all women are different

I got pregnant twice while still bf.

Depends on the person. It can affect fertility for some, others not.

Good luck ttc.

@AnneWhittle yes I had spoken to Drs and HVs and said I am.nursing a toddler and not able to get pregnant. All they said was as your periods are regular you should. 😂 that's it.
It wasn't until I spoke to a fertility Dr who confirmed my suspicions.

Yes I do know that my father is 1 of 13 and 2/3 year age gap between him and all siblings as in our culture babies are weaned at age 2.
But I do know lots of qomen who get pregnant while nursing even 6montha Postpartum.

But the fact when you go to your Gp or speak to a professional they have no clue is awful. I am lucky my BIL has connections as he is an OBGYN so was able to have an apt for free with a fertility Dr.
