Mirena gona AWOL....

Ok, so I went for a smear Monday.
Nurse asked about contraception before hand, said I had a Mirena (was put in just before last smear, so 3 years ago).

Assume the position on the bed, and she doubles check I said I had a coil, well apparently the strings aren't visible...
She had a good old rummage and still couldn't find them.

So I'm being referred for a hunting expedition!

Anyone know what I'm to expect please?
Thanks

Mine is also missing! It showed up on an xray, but they can't tell exactly where it is, so waiting for ultrasound appointment to come through, nightmare!

Same happened to me and I was so worried about it. The ultrasound found the mirena in the right place just that the threads had obviously moved into the womb so couldn't be located from the vagina.

I then had another appointment at the hospital (the complex birth control department or something similar) where they were really really lovely and used a special tool to go into the entrance of the cervix and remove the mirena. I was offered numbing spray / local anaesthetic / gas and air etc. but they were so lovely (talking me through the whole process) that I just had the numbing spray and they had it out in a jiffy and I felt like a bit of a fraud for being so nervous.

I imagine depending on where the mirena is you may need more pain relief but to be honest mine was easy so fingers crossed for you too.

Mine went MIA and I had a scan which showed it was still there. I left it in for another couple of years then had to have a complex coil removal, which really just meant they got a consultant to do it rather than a nurse, who had a bit more of a rummage and was able to remove it easily. The strings had gone up the other way.

so it was all fine really.

Thank you ladies.

I've done 2 pg tests ( a week apart) and both negative, so I'm working on the basis it's where it should be and it's just the strings gone poof!

I've got US appointment come through for next month.

I'll be honest, it's the removal I'm more worried about 🥴
