Do hospitals keep medical files going back 18 years?

I have nothing on medical files at the GP's for anything further back than 12 years. Unfortunately I have ongoing issues from an operation that went wrong (a laparoscopy for endometriosis) where I bled out and they had to go back in. Anyway, long story short they created a huge amount of scarring and my bowel in now attached to my womb/uterus by endometrial scarring and causes horrific pain.

The problem is that I have now moved areas and my new gp's don't know background and it's too old to be on the computer. I wondered if I contacted the old hospital (John Radcliffe, Oxford) they would have kept the files? Does anyone know?

Tia for any help xx

Evening,
I've seen documents on my MYGP app from birth. I'm now 41. I was born abroad and moved about alot but they all seem to be on there. So don't know why your records from 18 years ago wouldn't be x

Hello
There is medication on there and vaccinations etc, but nothing about hospital admissions etc x

Hi, it is possible that they could still have your medical records. Depending on the trust sometimes notes are held at an off site facility before being destroyed. Contact the manager at healthcare records at your hospital and they’ll give you info and their email for you to email over your request and they’ll look into it for you x
