progesterone shortage

Morning,

Has anyone been affected with the shortage of progesterone & being told to stop taking oestrogel (or patches) until it is resolved?

I have been prescribed progesterone tablets to tide me over until I can get my mirena coil replaced (5 years old) but they are impossible to get. I telephoned my Dr surgery to ask about a replacement & the receptionist has told me I must stop taking the oestrogel as I don't have the progesterone tablets - i'm in complete panic over this as I just can't face my menopause symptoms starting again. I have asked when my mirena appointment will be but apparantly there is a waiting list (even though I have the replacement mirena from the pharmacy) & I can only get a Dr's telephone appointment in 3 weeks time.

Anyone else been told this or is the receptionist possibly wrong given she doesn't have all the information ?

Pharmacy got my prescription of Utrogestan yesterday so started them last night.
Now in 2 minds whether to cancel my GP appointment for Friday (free an appointment for someone else) or attend & find out what is happening with the Mirena & whether I need other options prescribed for when these run out (1 month supply)

Are you aware that if you use them vaginally you halve the dose (sequential), or alternate day dose (continous), which would mean that you can then save half the pack to next month just in case you can't get any next month. Worth talking to the doctor about.

My prescription has never been changed despite private doctor informing GP of change to vaginally. Therefore I have 2 packs of Utogestan in the cupboard so am good for a few more months.

Thank you - I had no idea you could take them that way, they just say take 1 a day orally on the box

I will keep the appointment & ask the Dr on Friday

@Seamsthesame - sorry for all the questions but do you take the 100mg or 200mg please?

@Seamsthesame - sorry for all the questions but do you take the 100mg or 200mg please?

Was originally prescribed 200mg orally 14 days on 14 days off (as I still have regular periods). Had a rough time the first month, had a consultation with Newson clinic and switched to 100mg vaginally 12-14 days per month.

ok, thank you - I have 100mg but will ask Dr if I can take vaginally to make them last longer

I spoke with the Dr who said the best solution is for her to give me another prescription so I ordering a month in advance.

The good news is - I picked up my Utrogestan prescription that I had been waiting weeks for & then 2 days later they said the other prescription was ready. Not sure if that means the shortage is improving or just a case of my pharmacy getting their stock
