cholecystitis - what should I expect

Been sent to a&e by the doc because what I thought was really strained muscles is actually likely to be gallbladder...

waiting to see the surgical team about what they will do today - ultrasound or bloods - but the stuff I've read online seems mixed about whether I'll be kept in. I'm in lots of pain but also have 2 kids and just worried about how we'll manage everything

Bump.... still here. Had bloods and an x ray and waiting for results

When I had it I was in hospital for a week. Mainly for pain relief I think. My memory of it is hazy. I felt very poorly. Hope you feel better soon.

They are saying they will discharge me with painkillers and an appointment for a scan in a couple of days.

I don't feel too unwell, it's just the constant discomfort and pain - they haven't brought me any painkillers yet

That's good as long as the pain killers they give you are effective and you have someone to support you at home. Your own bed will be much nicer than a hospital ward.

Well that's just the thing - I do have some support at home but DH works long shifts and two young children to deal with. He's saving having to take emergency time off for when I have the scan and if I suddenly need surgery, which is fair enough. But still a little tough. Luckily they both have a long day at school/nursery tomorrow so I can rest.
The pain seems a little better this evening, hopefully the meds are doing something while I wait for what happens next. They did all the bloods so I keep reminding myself they wouldn't have let me out if there was any hint of infection.

If it gets worse go back and I'm afraid that although it's difficult your DH will just have to step up and look after his children. 🤨🥴

Well the scan found sludge but not stones but no inflammation so they think it's probably something else (maybe gastritis) that's responsible. But they still put me on the long waiting list for the op because the sludge isn't normal.

I'm going to speak to the GP as tbh once they knew I wasn't an urgent/emergency case they rushed me out of there just saying "don't eat cheese" and that was that. But why the special diet if it's not the cause of my pain?

And by long waiting list, I mean long. "It's years," he said.

I had sludge in my gall bladder too after the cholecystitis. I was absolutely fine for a year and then started having gall bladder attacks. The scan then showed many many gall stones but before my follow up appt I got pancreatitis and was in hospital again for 10 days and was told they would remove my gall bladder as soon as the inflammation had gone down. Was discharged and called back the next day for the op. Haven't looked back since.

I found my trigger for a gall bladder attack was fatty food - a full English breakfast was a definite.
