Have you had a fibroid removed? Or do you have a 'bulky' womb?

I'm feeling sorry for myself.
My fibroid was removed nearly 3 weeks ago. Hysteroscopically.
I'm still bleeding. I had a Mirena coil fitted but it came out after a week!
Maybe my 'bulky' womb was responsible?
It was supposed to be the answer to my bleeding issues.
I asked what they meant by bulky but don't really get a response.
I'm also getting a few bleeds like period every few days too. Lighter than before but ....I have no idea whether this is right or wrong as I was on HRT before the procedure and I'm 54.
I'm so sick of bleeding!

If you had a fibroid removed please tell me about your recovery.

No fibroid removed but I have a bulky uterus - I look 4/5 months pregnant. It's due to adenomyosis which is endometriosis in the muscle.

I'd definitely ask for a better explanation.

I have a "bulky" uterus due to the presence of two large fibroids which are undergoing degeneration. On MRI, my uterus measures around 17cm (equivalent of a 16/18 week pregnancy) and the fundus can be felt just below my navel.

The largest fibroid is 9cm. I also had a Mirena coil fitted with the aim of thinning the endometrial lining (which was thickened due to hyperplasia without atypia) but this partially expelled a week or so later and had to be removed by a GP. I'm currently taking low dose medroxyprogesterone to thin the lining. On a recent MRI, the lining appears to be back to within the normal thickness range for a post-menopausal woman.

The fibroids are considered by the NHS too large to be safely removed via myomectomy (and there are other considerations for not removing them surgically) and too large for successful embolization. I wish to avoid a hysterectomy and the hope is that the fibroids will continue to degenerate, having outgrown their blood supply and their oestrogen supply, and will shrink and not continue to cause post-meno bleeding.

I've got a bulky uterus apparently.
I've also got significant pain in my left side, can't turn to the left or lie on my left side.

I'm scared witless what I've developed in there! I was meant ti have a pelvic scan last week but the GP messed up the referral.

I'm contemplating a private scan now as I'm so worried!

RedDoughnut · 30/06/2023 09:06

@Runaround50 won't your GP refer you for a scan?
I'd try to go private if not.
I'm worse on my left side too.
I've been having a pulse sensation there and now I've scared myself

I had a hysterectomy in 2017 because of constant bleeding due to fibroids. Afterwards the surgeon told me I had a bulky uterus.

Hysterectomy was the best thing I ever did.
