C-section infection - positive stories needed

Mumofone2023 · 17/06/2023 06:58

Hello,

this is my first post so apologies if I get anything wrong. I had a cesarean 3 weeks ago and was healing well and now I have an infection, confirmed by a doctor so I'm on 7 days of antibiotics. On top of the pain, constant cluster feeding, sleep deprivation, new mum anxiety and birth trauma this feels like a lot and I just need some positive stories from anyone who also had an infection with their c-section and is now healed and doing better.

thank you in advance

Me! After my second which was in July and very hot I got one. Things that helped - trying to give my scar as much air as I could and making sure it was as dry as it could be.
the antibiotics cleared things up and it’s healed nicely.
The fog after a baby is born is hard and c section pain is also hard. That plus an infection is harder! Take care of yourself, don’t do too much and make sure you see a GP or talk to your midwife if you feel it’s not getting better.

Oh bless you, it is a lot to deal with. I was a weeping ball of despair when mine got infected.
A week later it was much better, 2 weeks after that I was well and mobile enough for a baby walking group, after that mat leave and motherhood just got better and better.
BF for 18 months, scar invisible now though a little bumpy in the area with worst infection, loving toddler life
It will improve 💐

Bournetilly · 17/06/2023 07:07

Mine was infected but I needed multiple courses of antibiotics. It almost healed after around 6 weeks but there was a small open area which didn’t fully close until 6 months after (I didn’t put a dressing on the small open area).
Keep it as clean and dry as possible (hard in this weather), it will heal eventually but if you find the antibiotics aren’t working keep going back to the GP.
My scar has now healed really well, you can hardly see it.

Pepperama · 17/06/2023 07:12

yes me too. It was miserable and I was so exhausted! Distant memory now several years on but I remember feeling really cheated that there was none of the warm cosiness of new motherhood that I’d imagined. And it stopped me going places so felt stuck at home for a few weeks when others from my NCT class were doing lots of fun things. Two lots of Antibiotics and time sorted it for me eventually - all you can do in the meantime is try to get rest when baby allows and give yourself time to recover. Do you have folk to help? Once you feel better yourself, things do get easier!

I’m sorry? Couldn’t properly birth my child? I’m trying not to take offence but what on Earth do you mean?

bless you, it’s not easy! I had two infection in my wound back to back plus during the section I had a drain put in and that got infected around same time of the wound infections- all needed different antibiotics and I was really beyond passed it all!! When my child was 6 weeks old I then had a massive splash on the floor bleed suddenly after not feeling well and turns out I had a womb infection, a few days in hospital on ivy antibiotics sorted that. I can’t underestimate the impact it had on me mentally , so please take care of yourself, know that better days are coming, speak to your partner/ family if frustrated/ upset . But despite all the horrible infections it all passes and heal up well, I didn’t think it was possible at the time but it was!
once recommended especially if it’s your first section is once the infection calms down and goes to start massaging your scar to reduce chance of scar tissue/ adhesions developing xx YouTube has lots of videos x

Bluebells1970 · 17/06/2023 07:44

It's so important to rest well, and try to keep your scar open/exposed as much as you can. I remember spending a few days in bed just feeding and with my scar uncovered. It does get better, honest. Bathing in epsom salts helps too.

I had two sections (not by choice, I'd add), and found recovery hard going both times.

Hiddenvoice · 17/06/2023 07:49

I had an infection about 3 weeks after my c section too. Once I had a course of antibiotics and some cream for it- it was all good. Healed nicely and there was no inflammation or pain from It. A year on and a lot of my scar has almost disappeared into a very small scar.

Please ignore @mama2829 she seems completely clueless. C section is still birthing your child. Ignore anyone who says otherwise. She clearly has never been through it and won’t understand.

I am not going to argue with you and repeat what exactly what I said before- you’re clueless. You have never experienced a c section. Just because you sat in a room and watched is not the same thing. I feel sorry for your auntie who was clearly upset but you’ve not helped her and not reassured her.

There is no need for you to comment on this post. You are doing nothing but making all mums feel rubbish about themselves and that was clearly your intention. Everyone should be proud of how their bodies welcomed their babies into this world. No matter how the baby entered the world, they were born- meaning they were birthed- natural or c section- they were still born.

Please exit yourself from this thread which is about infections. You have not been through this yourself so have no personal experience of the pain.

Hiddenvoice · 17/06/2023 08:00

Also @mama2829 if you think you’re just lying there being lazy and feeling no pain then again- you’re completely clueless.

I had an infection in c section last year about 2 weeks after I had my dd. It was during the heatwave and I ended up sat in out of hours with a temp of 40 in 38 degree heat, very unpleasant.
The antibiotics cleared it up just fine though and I made sure to keep it clean and dry in the heat. It's all fully healed no, no troubles

NewMum456 · 12/07/2023 12:26

It's not easy having an infection. It will get better though hunni. Our bodies go through so much through during pregnancy, take time to care for yourself. I read this article and hit had some very good tips in https://momsdailydiary.com/yeast-infection-after-c-section/

Loving all you mommas

Floryella · 31/01/2024 19:15

Hello! Resurrecting an old thread here. I’m two weeks on from my second c-section and have got an infection on one side of the scar. Nothing too bad but it has made me feel quite sore and even more tired than I was before! Coupled with cluster feeding and a chest infection (coughing like mad) I’m feeling a bit sorry for myself. Toddler doesn’t understand why I can’t pick her up and I feel a bit low. The positive stories here have definitely helped.

I wondered if any of you remember which antibiotics you were prescribed? My GP prescribed me flucloxacillin today based on a photo rather than seeing me in person (positive of this is it was very convenient and quick). With my last section I was admitted back into hospital with what turned out to be ecoli in my bladder and to find that they did a lot of swabs etc and gave me full spectrum antibiotics on a drip. Don’t want that again but I’m a bit nervous of being prescribed a course of pills without an in person appointment in case it’s the wrong sort.

Did anyone else take flucloxacillin and did it do the trick?

ZiimZiim · 10/11/2024 05:43

Hey @Floryella I know this is a long time after you posted. How are you now? I'm currently 4 week PP with an infection that has been treated once but now i have seen a couple more tiny holes that seem to have some yellow smelly liquid coming out. Hope you're better!
