C section wound and summer.

How do you keep your c section scar dry in summer heat. I feel friction makes the surrounding area red.

I had the worse experience with my section gaping and getting infected. Had such bad luck. When it finally closed I asked the nurse if I can apply anything to keep it dry. He said dont need anything on it and then said OK you asked for it so I am applying it.

It was some barrier cream on a stick. 30 minutes later I broke out in a reaction and it burnt and stung. God knows what was in it maybe Alcohol. I was so upset. It took me 10 weeks to heal only to land back with another problem. It is really red around the site. Friction during the day isn't helping.

Any tips?

Oh gosh, that sounds very sore! Is the scar in a fold? I had a section last July and found that keeping it relentlessly clean and as dry as possible helped. So, showering once or twice daily, using an antibacterial soap and rinsing really thoroughly, drying off with a hairdryer on the cool setting, Neals Yard talc and regular ‘airings’ throughout the day. It was a pain to have yet another job during the baby stage, but it helped. Good luck to you.

It sounds like cavilon cream which is a barrier cream.
How far post party m are you because it shouldn't really need anything and if it's wet then that can be a sign of infection.

Possibly a weird one, but if you have an overhang and the skin is rubbing together try using an antiperspirant roll on/stick.

I just swipe it on after a shower and it's completely stopped all the horrible red sore skin I used to get.

Medicated talc is what you need! Ask in the pharmacy, only if wound complete closed tho, I used to air with fan lying down after shower also

@Wudgy hey thanks I have been doing that. Just that through the day as the skin rubs it gets really red. Don't know how to prevent that.

@addler I thought of that but felt it was risky without medical opinion. Then I landed with this reaction.

The way I see it is as long as the wound is closed and healed fully then what's the difference to using it anywhere else externally?

I know women who use it under their boobs if they have big ones and find it chafes in summer.

I wore massive belly button knickers to avoid chafing.
I showered at least once a day and sat on my bed to dry. Then I used to lie back flat on my back and 'lift' my lower yummy flap up. I used 3 or 4 breast pads to blot dry the wound. I only did 1 blot per pad to avoid infection. I then used to lie and give my scar an airing. My husband was really good at letting me have that time. It was also a good 20 mins for me to rest and not be touched!
Finally I made sure I ate lots of wholesome food...especially protein for healing. I would probably avoid creams and powders as they will probably make infection more likely.

If your scar is under a fold, when you’re laying down make sure your knickers aren’t covering the scar so air gets to it constantly. It really does help.
