So I've had UTI like symptoms for over a month now.

My first doctors visit was on may 10th, with weird smelling urine, cloudy urine and burning when I wee. Was prescribed Trimethoprim and sent on my way.

This didn't work, so went back to my GP and got a 3 day course of Nitrofurantonin. I did think this improved things, but it came back as soon as I stopped the course, so was prescribed 7 days by my GP.

Again for the first few days it seemed to help, but then I was in excruciating bladder pain and my kidneys started to hurt.

Returned again, currently on a 7 day course of Co-Amoxiclav (I'm on day 6). These seemed to help so much to begin with, and truth be told I feel much much better that I did, but not sure the infection has quite cleared? I have a kind of oily film on my wee, rather than the large chunks of white matter I had before.

This entire time the urine cultures they sent away have come back negative, but I've always had high amounts of leukocytes (and nothing else) on the dip test.

It still hurts when I wee a bit, and still got bladder pain and pressure, which is why I'm concerned. When I dip test my wee (I bought some strips myself as I was sick of not knowing whether things were helping) it all seems fine right now, but I'm terrified of having a lingering infection and it getting worse again once I stop the antibiotics tomorrow.

Does anyone have any experience with lingering tenderness post UTI? This has been hell on earth, never had one like it. I'm having to take time off work etc. just to feel any level of normal.

Hey op, how are you feeling, has this resolved for you?

I'm going through similar at the minute after being UTI free for a few years now. Last time I had one it lasted nearly two months, several courses of antibiotics and in the end I think it just went on it's own. This time it's pretty much the same. I've had two lots of macrobid now which did feel like it helped at the beginning but I still feel like I want to wee all the time..

Last time I had a cystoscopy/scans of my kidneys and bladder but all came back fine. I don't want to go down that rabbit hole again if I can avoid it.

How are you getting on?

Hey!

So I'm referred to urology. Feeling much better than I did, but not great still. I have lingering pain which is worse particularly when tired, which I think is inflammation related. I will say generally I feel fine though, just kind of pain like having a constant mild headache.

Imagine it'll resolve on its own, but it's good to get the referral either way. So sorry to hear you're going through similar!

Thanks for coming back and updating. I'm clinging to the hope that mine will resolve naturally like it did last time but I'm going abroad in a few weeks and so pissed off that I might not be feeling well. The constant need to pee is really getting me down. I was up and down like a yo yo at work today. I've two more days on Nitrofurantion but it's clearly not working but the urine dip (I work with nurses so have dipped it for me) shows nothing now other than a trace of blood (which is normal for me and has been investigated in the past) so I don't think I'll get any further antibiotics. It's so miserable,

Hi guys!

Did you ever get to the bottom of this problem?

I couldn’t have described it better - a mild, but very annoying headache!

Lostandconfused27 · 23/08/2023 11:10

Okay so, I can finally say I'm 95% better. Hiprex has been a game changer for me, about two weeks ago i was prescribed it and today I am almost pain free. If you haven't already, ask your urologist or doctor to prescribe it!

It's been a long 3.5 months, but feel like I'm finally getting to the end of this. I have a cystoscopy on the 7th September so will soon know if there is any residual infection.

Hope this helps someone else because I know I was trawling forums. I scared myself silly thinking I would suffer for years, and it hasn't been true for me at all.

Oh this is amazing, so happy for you! I have just started Hiprex a few days ago - I ordered it myself so will see how it goes. Let me know how the cystoscopy goes! They would like to send me for one but I am reluctant because I do not want to make anything worse considering how far I’ve come over the past few months. Praying that we all get over this horrible period 🙏🏼🙏🏼

StanleyGoodspeed · 25/08/2023 13:10

hi, do you need a prescription for Hiprex? I am in UK

biscuitbadger · 25/08/2023 20:53

Hi @Lostandconfused27 I just posted on general health re white mucusy stuff in my urine - was that a sign of a UTI for you then? I'm really weirded out by it, have had UTIs in the past but never noticed this!

WildFeathers · 25/08/2023 22:00

I was referred to urology with constant repeating low level urine infections which came back negative on cultures. I asked them in the end why they haven’t done a blood test given how many I had had (large practice at the time so often saw a different doctor). I guess often the problem self resolved or gets worse but my was lingering on at the same level. The blood test came back with inflammation markers so was referred to urology. Urologist said he saw this all the time that cultures can come back negative as everyone has some bacteria in urine so positive result has to be over a certain amount so can get a false negative. 6 months on two different types of antibiotics and all sorted.
