Moveable lump on collar bone

Hi everyone

a week or so ago I was looking in the mirror and noticed a lump the size of a small grape on my left collar bone, I went to feel it and it literally shot off, like it disappeared under the collar bone. I moved my shoulder around to see if it would re appear and it did. It’s so slippery and really hard to get hold of to feel. I managed to get a feel of it, it’s a bit squishy almost like a rubbery texture. It moves around so much it’s really odd! It’s not painful but I’m just so worried. I’ve already been to the GP who unfortunately didn’t get to feel it as it was under my collar bone at the time. So he sent me for bloods so I’m just awaiting those. I suffer terribly with health anxiety, especially after I had my little boy now 18 months and have spent the past 3 days crying on and off and thinking the worst. I’ve come across all sorts on google - Ranging from fatty lumps to swollen lymph nodes. Hopefully all my bloods will come back normal. I’m going to ask for a scan though just to be sure.

Just looking for some reassurance or similar experiences. It’s the bank hol weekend so I have to wait until at least Tuesday to get my blood results.

Any response greatly appreciated x

Has there been any change in the size of the lump? I hope you get the bloods back Tues, will the GP call you? If the size of the lump increases see GP without delay.

Disclaimer: I am not medically qualified, just relaying my experience.

I had exactly the same thing on the top of my collar bone a couple of years ago. Nearly shat myself when I discovered it. It turned out to be a lipoma, i.e. a harmless fatty lump. I could move it around between my fingers and it felt just as you've described. The collar bone area is apparently a common location for them to appear.

Of course it's always wise to get these things checked out. Fingers crossed yours is also nothing of concern.

@Roselilly36 Thank you for your reply. Not really noticed if it’s changed in size as I can rarely see it, it just pops up randomly and if I try and touch it.. it literally moves off so fast. Thank you I hope so too, I hate how much I worry

@NoisyBrain Thank you so much for your reply. Yes I have come across lipomas when I’ve been googling. I just tend to think the worst and get myself in to a right state which isn’t helpful at all. It doesn’t move around between my fingers as such, I can’t get hold of it. If I try to grab it or press on it.. it literally shoots off and will more times than most just vanish out of sight. It’s like a bar of soap! Yes when I noticed it it was just sat there on top of my collar bone and I pressed on it and it just popped away and only noticed it again a few days later. If I try to feel for it now it’s not there.. but it’ll be hiding under the bone. Have you still got yours? X

I've had this since having glandular fever as a teen; basically a lymph node came up and is now just there.

Sounds exactly like yours, movable and slippery. No doctor has ever been concerned about it.

oliveblue90 · 28/05/2023 18:46

@Anoana thank you for your reply. Did it slip around out of sight? Do you still have it? It’s so strange. My GP didn’t seem overly concerned when I went the other day but unfortunately I still get so anxious about these type of things. I’ve lost over 2 stone since January so I’m wondering if I’ve only noticed it now as there is less fat in the area.

Yes it sort of floats around the collar bone but isn't always there, I was told it's not a worry if it's free and not tethered to something, and soft instead of hard and an irregular shape.

DS has similar on his neck, had it checked, again nothing to worry about.

oliveblue90 · 28/05/2023 19:06

@Anoana Yes it sounds exactly the same, hopefully it’ll be same outcome for me. You’ve described it perfectly as “floats about”

@oliveblue90 I had mine removed, as it was sitting directly where my bra strap went (I was able to 'ping' it out of the way, but it would then move back). The GP therefore referred me for surgery on the basis that it was causing a nuisance.

anxious1112 · 12/11/2023 08:18

Have you found out what it is?
I have discovered EXACTLY same thing on my collarbone, a pea size lump that shots off the moment i press on it and disappears

Loubelle70 · 12/11/2023 08:21

Youve done right asap by going gp. Its probably a lipoma (fatty lump lol) ...im not large woman but i have one on my right hand side, its moveable and soft. It could be a swollen lymph...not linked to cancer...me and daughter get them odd time even if not ill

I've had one that's come up even bigger after a flu vaccine in the same arm, I've had 2 scans on it when it was smaller but they aren't concerned but now it's got bigger ( 2 days after jab ) I'm worried!

my first thought was TB, a relative suddenly had a huge lump on collar bone - turned out to be TB, got treated and was fine after a few months although tired for another number of months after that

I would think it's a lymph node that's reacting to your jabs.

Hello I have the same thing, have you found answers? My dr wasn’t concerned.
