My 20 year old has recently been diagnosed with this - she has suffered from very heavy and very long periods and it looks as if the reason for this is that she has 2 wombs. Apparently it is not that uncommon (1 in 3000 women) so I thought that there may be someone on here who has it and might have some advice on what to ask the GP for to help with the periods as cerazette isn't that helpful

I’m 10 weeks pregnant in my right uterus so just came on to search for other with the same condition as me! Found your post but it’s a bit old, did you manage to get the help / advice you need?

londonmummy1966 · 29/07/2023 12:36

@redxlondon - thank you for this - she is going to see a consultant to discuss but it is really hard to find anyone who can tell me anything about it. Surprising as it is not actually that rare!

Good luck with your pregnancy - has it thrown up any issues?

I’m only 10 weeks, no issues so far.
Over past few years I saw two different gynaecologists, had ultrasounds, MRI and a biopsy. Anything sinister like cancer or endometriosis was ruled out. It does just seem to cause horrific pain. The only thing that really worked for me was contraceptive pill. I also worked with my doctor to find the right combo of painkillers. Surprisingly in the end paracetamol and neurofen combined was most effective, I’d tired so many different drugs for PMS.

@redxlondon thank you - I will suggest she tries paracetamol and nurofen together next time. She's been put on the pill which I'm hoping will help. The biggest problem seems to be the amount of blood she loses with flooding and huge clots which looks like a slasher movie sometimes

I stumbled on this post but wanted to share.
I have the same condition and I had same issues as your daughter in my teenage years. In my case I had a partial hysterectomy at 18 because I couldn’t cope with constantly being on period and lots of infections as one uterus wasn’t fully communicating with its own cervix.
I’m now in my 40s, two kids. Uneventful pregnancies both carried to term.
Another thing which is quite common with this condition is having only one kidney (which I have).

@Soaringhigh thank you so much for popping on - think I might ask her to get checked on the kidney front as I'd not heard that before. Her periods are quite erratic and incredibly heavy when they do come (she is a musician so has to sit in rehearsals and it is a nightmare if she's on - she flooded through a triple layer of incontinence pads and a pair of period pants in an hour and a half last month). Were the issues you had with a uterus and cervix not communicating that you were building up but then not having a period some months resulting in a real torrent when you did? As I'm wondering if this is her issue.

Any other side effects she might want to know about. Sorry to bombard you but its so hard finding someone who has this and might be able to answer some questions

Your daughter’s experience is quite similar to mine at that age. My issue was the cervix not communicating and having blood build up in that uterus. I used to have torrents unexpectedly and had many embarrassing situations. Once it happened in the office and I had to buy new clothes - thankfully I was working at Bond Street at the time.
And lots of foul smelling discharge from period being in uterus for so long. I had a few procedures to open the cervix but it always closed back.
I still have two cervix and have to do two separate smear tests for each one. Luckily one vagina. Some ladies have double vaginas.

@Soaringhigh - thank you for getting back on this - I think that she needs to ask about this then as the level of blood loss is pretty insane sometimes.
