Suspected prolapse and wanting another child

Just wondering if anyone can offer any advice or had a similar experience. I had DS 3 years ago and he was a very big baby. It was an induced labour and I had forceps and an episiotomy. I recovered from that but have always had a niggling feeling that I may have a bladder prolapse. Recently we have been trying for another but I have had 2 MMC. Since this and having a cough recently, I have felt certain that I do have a bladder prolapse. My only symptoms are that sometimes I get a sensation like I have a tampon falling out. When I've had a feel I can feel a bulge on the front wall and I think I can also see this when looking. Since birth I also have a much bigger urethra opening. It's proving very difficult to get a GP appointment. I was just wondering what they are likely to do, especially if they know I might have another baby. Me and my husband want to start trying again but I am now also a bit terrified that having another child could make the prolapse worse. It just feels like there is no help out there and if it gets worse I'll be stuck trying to somehow live with it!

I have similar but haven't been able to get any real help. I'm lucky I'm fairly symptomless like you.

I've had multiple gp appointments that have each examined, confirmed bladder prolapse, advised pelvic floor exercise and see in 3 months. I've pushed for a gynea referral who said the same!

Not bad enough for intervention but they also wouldn't confirm what help I would get when I am bad enough..

It confusing but I just do my pelvic floors and be careful not to do activities that make it worse. We've decided to TTC for our second soon, request a section and see what happens!

Sorry not very helpful, I'm so worried about it getting worse aswel

Josiejo12 · 23/05/2023 21:27

Thank you for replying. I'm going to really push for GP to see me so at least I will hopefully know for sure what kind of prolapse I'm dealing with. Whilst it's not causing me too much trouble day to day the anxiety that it's giving me is horrible. It's the fear that it will get worse and what help will be available. I hope everything goes well for you, I'm also thinking of just trying for baby number 2 and hoping for the best. I think I'll always be wondering what if otherwise. X

I had bladder issues before my son was born that I only found out were abnormal during pregnancy. Two days after he was born I was referred. 17 months later I got an appointment. I remember at the 12 month mark, before I got the referral letter, being in tears not knowing whether I could/should have another child so I empathise. We decided not to put life on hole and by the time of the appointment I was pregnant. I have been andvised against a c section if possible in case I need surgery on my bladder at a later date. I’m 37w, I’m in the system and have a post birth plan in place. Including immediately after birth and a 6 week follow up. I guess what I’m saying is don’t wait, because NHS waiting lists are long. You’re also more likely to see someone when pregnant.

Oh god, a 17 month wait for an appointment is crazy! Sounds like you've at least got some help and support in place now. It's so hard knowing what to do for the best. My thinking is that it can get worse on it's own anyway so if I want another then maybe just do it. Still scary though. That's interesting that they advised you against a c section, I've read mixed reviews about what is best so I think it's best decided on an individual basis. Have you noticed that it's got worse through your pregnancy? Hope everything goes well for you and you get to meet your little one fairly soon! X

Just thought I'd give a little update here. I managed to get a GP appointment who said she could feel and anterior and posterior bulge. She also diagnosed me as being hypermobile which apparently contributes of prolapse. I've got a referral letter for a women's health physio which I'm going to access privately as I expect the NHS wait list to be long. I've listened to a few Clare Bourne podcasts which have helped me with my mindset as I was feeling incredibly down and paranoid about it. X
