Is this bad news?

Hi all
I posted a few weeks ago about referral for lump in my armpit which they thought was probably a cyst. I had a mammogram and few days later received a letter for a mammogram follow-up appointment. Does this mean bad news? The appointment is scheduled for two weeks time. I thought if it was nothing to worry about, I would have just received a phone call rather than another appointment.

No, I think they’d have you in quicker if there was a problem

Was there an accompanying leaflet with the letter? When I've had follow up mammograms, they've provided a leaflet with numbers to phone if wanting more information or anxious

Sorry - thought you said a follow up mammogram rather than a follow up to tbe mammogram

I've been in your situation and the follow up appointment was just for them to tell me everything was fine. Obviously I was relieved, but it was a day off work and car parking charge...

They do tend to automatically arrange follow up appointments

It doesn't necessarily mean bad news: it means that the want to do further checks to make sure that it is just a cyst.

I went through the same thing just this week: I had had a mammogram because of a suspected cyst. I was called back for a follow-up mammogram and an ultrasound. It was just a cyst, in the end, and there was a bit of a debate about whether or not it should be drained.

In the end, the consultant decided to let it go. At the end of the appointment, they gave me a letter saying that there was no evidence of cancer and that I should return for a routine mammogram in three years.
