Change to periods

Over the last few years I’ve noticed a change to my periods.

I’m 37, 2 kids, history of abnormal cells following smear tests meaning I’ve had more smears than normal.

I always used to have a 5 day period. Over the last couple of years or so they’ve been getting shorter and a lot lighter.

this month my period was less than 24 hours and used a couple of panty liners rather than pads.

my GP doesn’t really acknowledge my concern that something isn’t right. I had a blood test to see if I was pre menopausal but I’m not.

has anyone else experienced anything like this?
GP acts like I’m annoying them but part of me feels I should be concerned about this

Have you had covid vaccines? It’s been reported they’ve changed me truck cycles and started early menopause

Yes I have, 2 vaccines and 1 booster.
I'll look into that thank you

Hiya, glad to read it’s not just me. My cycles have always been normal/heavy and before Christmas I experienced a really light short cycle which was pink in colour, if anything at all. I went to the doctor and they told me not to worry but this is so out of the ordinary for me. I’m nearly 34 and have a nearly 5 year old. The next 2 cycles have been normal but my current cycle has gone very light and changed colour (pink) again. I’m really worried!
I’ve had covid vaccines and boosters too so interesting if anything to do with that!

I originally thought it was just a odd phase or something but then they never returned to normal.
As well as getting much shorter the colour is much darker.
I'd love to get some answers but GP doesn't seem interested and at a loss for what else to do

Wondering if some sort of detox could help? Cleanse your system sort of thing?

Maybe acupuncture.

Im on a page where we discuss the effects of over vaccinating pets and know there are things to help detox animals systems of toxins, there must be similar for humans.

Can you see another doctor? I would, given that you had abnormal cells in the past. I'm sure it's fine but best to double check. You could even have an examination at a sexual health clinic if there's one near you.

Please don't do that OP, detoxes are scams (your kidneys and liver do that for you, and vaccines aren't toxic 🤦🏽‍♀️)

I would definitely ask for referral to a gynaecologist though, just to make sure there is no underlying concern. If your GP won't do it, I would consider changing GPs tbh, your questions shouldn't just be dismissed like that 😔

Mine have had the occasional short light cycle from around 42 years old, before covid. Since 2019 I have been very light and 25 day cycle, I'm definitely peri menopausal. Gp said it's all to be expected, had normal smear

gogohmm · 24/04/2023 07:43

Ps I had no bleed at all for 2 months after catching covid at Christmas.

Hi!
A one off hormone test is not a great indicator as to whether you’re perimenopausal or not.
Do you have any other symptoms?
Have you lost or gained weight?
Are you under a lot of stress?
Are you a vegetarian or vegan?
All of these are much more likely to have impacted your cycles than the covid vaccine.

WhiteCatmas · 24/04/2023 07:46

Oh and don’t get a detox, that is just shit.

lljkk · 24/04/2023 08:02

Mine got shorter & lighter in my 30s, especially after I had kids.
That was 20 years ago. I never had any perimenopause.

No other we're symptoms which is why I find it so strange.
I really had to push GP for blood tests for hormones after being dismissed originally due to my age (37).

No dramatic weight gain or loss.

Normal balanced diet, not vegan or vegetarian.

Maybe I should go back to GP and request another smear. Before I moved to this GP I was having annual smears but I've not had one for the last couple of years, I think because I've changed GP (England to NI) I've dropped off the annual list and moved back to the normal recall times. I did tell them when I registered but looks like I've been forgotten.

Thanks for everyone's comments, I'll go back to GP. Just wanted to hear others thoughts as I was starting to feel like GP thought I was being annoying over it all
