Lumpy uncomfortable vagina

fairgame84 · 02/04/2023 10:54

I posted in postnatal health but got no replies so hoping someone on here can help.

I'm almost 6 months pp and for the past 2 weeks I have a weird feeling in my vagina. It feels full, like there's something in there like a ping pong ball.
I can't see anything massively abnormal but it feels lumpy on the front wall. I thought it might be a prolapse but I had a smear this week and the nurse said there is no prolapse. She said there is a bumpy bit at the vaginal entrance and it's normal. There is definitely a bumpy ridged bit there that wasn't there before. It's squishy and moves easily.
DH said he could feel that it was a bit lumpy when we dtd.

This is my 2nd vaginal delivery and I didn't have this 1st time round.
It feels uncomfortable but not painful and not painful to touch.
I'm peeing and pooing normally.

Has anybody had anything similar? Should I bother the GP for a 2nd opinion?

All lumps and bumps should be investigated. Definitely book a doctors appointment. Found this on the net:

Vaginal cysts are usually caused by childbirth, injury to the vagina or blocked glands. Your healthcare provider can diagnose vaginal cysts during a physical exam and recommend treatment.

Thankyou.
Everything I've looked at online points to a prolapse or a cyst but then the nurse said everything was normal 😩
It's not normal for me though and i don't think anything that's normal should be uncomfortable, like there's something stuck in there.

You could try a second opinion if you’re not happy? Look at your dr surgery website and book with a gynaecologist/female health specialist if your doctors has one, or google for mummy mot in your area, which is like a specialist women’s physio appt - they have a proper root around down there lol. It may just be how it is now, my vagina is certainly very different to pre birth! I had a women’s physio appointment post partum with discomfort down there - all my googling led me to believe I had a prolapse - but it was actually hypertonic pelvic floor which I never would have thought of!

Thankyou x
I looked into a mummy mot so I might go down that route. I've got a pnd review with my gp next week so I'll ask her about a second opinion for my weird vagina and whether it'd worth having another examination.

@fairgame84 hope it gets sorted for you x

Has anyone tried an intra-vaginal device such as Contrelle Activegard for urinary incontinence?
Thanks.

I was told you had to be standing to be checked for a prolapse..

Maybe ask again for a check up.

Don't 'ask' just book one in, a proper one, not a quick one at the end if your snear.

its uncomfortable
its lumpy

its more than enough reason to book a proper check up!

I think the lumpy ridged bit you are seeing is normal - it's around the urethra. If you've given birth everything is probably a bit more open than before so you can see/feel it. Ask for a referral to a womens physio they will assess you properly.

It is around the urethra and I can see it with a mirror. The thing that made me think prolapse was that everything was fine and normal until around 3 weeks ago when I felt like there was something there and the weird lumpy feeling started.
It's felt a bit better the past few days but still not 100% normal.
I'm going to try book in with the really nice female gp that's seen it all before.

I was wondering how you got on with your appointment/assessment? I’ve literally had the same for a while now. 2 DC, 1st C-section, 2nd vag birth 3rd degree tear. No incontinence. I started to do exercise at 1 year post partum and started feeling odd down there . Literally I could have written the same post myself, swollen area around urethra (where gspot is supposed to be) that fills up vaginal passage and feels lumpy and feels like when you have a clot and try to squeeze it out. Can nube back up with finger when uncomfortable but comes right back. So uncomfortable. I’ve gone to private pelvic physio and no apparent prolapse. No one knows why I got that feeling. Would love to hear if you managed to resolve it??! And what it was in the end.

fairgame84 · 11/08/2023 08:03

I never did go for a 2nd opinion as a few days after my last post my dad had a heart attack and died after a month in hospital so it just wasn't on my radar.

To be fair it's carried on getting better and it feels pretty normal now, the full ping pong ball feeling has gone. The ridged lump still there and I can still push it etc but I think it's just normal like pp said.
DH said it feels normal during sex.

Oh my!!! I’m so very sorry about your dad😞
with regards to the topic discussed, i’ve gone to a pelvic floor physio and she’s done loads of sitting and standing ultrasounds and everything looks in place. She said the urethra is ridged normally, that maybe that’s what I felt. After childbirth everything is looser and even more if still breastfeeding. She said pelvic floor was great but my abdominal muscles were useless. We’ve started heated ultrasound and neuromodulation to zap back the muscles into shape as in theory having working abdominal muscles is even more important than doing kegels for the future health of our pelvic floor. Tbh, after she said I didn’t have a prolapse, the feeling got better instantly. Maybe there’s a physicological part to it as well. Hopefully like yours with time it’ll feel normal. I told you what I did in case the info helps you in any way as you took the time to reply so fast and I’m thankful for that. Best of wishes 😘

I have a ridged lump, and the GP said it’s normal after a vaginal delivery.
