I had a laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy, cervix & ovaries removed.
Life.Changing.
Honestly, I wish I hadn’t had to wait so long (or beg!) for it. Orgasms are still fine.
Start doing pelvic floor exercises as soon as you can post op. If you aren’t already doing them, start now and do them 3-4 times a day.
The best advice I was given was to walk a little every day starting at 5 minutes a day the first week. Adding 5 minutes each week so that, by week 6, you are walking 30 mins each day. Do the physio exercises as instructed too. A friend neither walked or did the exercises and she had a really slow recovery in comparison to myself & a friend. There is some pain but it eases remarkably quickly. Co codamol (& the morphine given during the op) cause constipation and the last thing you want to be doing is straining so get some stool softeners (Dulcoease NOT Dulcolax!) and take daily until things start moving and/or you stop co codamol. I ditched the codeine asap, and things were manageable on paracetamol after a few days at home.
Put frequently needed items such as lip balm, mints, hair ties, in a tie handled sandwich bag so that you can just lift the little bag out of the bedside locker instead of having to twist and rummage through your stuff to find little items.
Take ear plugs and headphones.
The gas they fill you with so they can see inside is painful as it disperses over the next few days after your op. Weirdly it can travel up to your shoulder. Peppermint oil capsules are supposed to help. Not sure how bad it would be without them because it’s painful enough with!
The swelling inside lasts a lot longer that you’d think. I was really freaked out when I first attempted to feel how things were, I thought I would never feel ‘normal’ again. Things are fine.
I hope things go smoothly and you have a speedy recovery.
