Low iron treatment

I realise this has been discussed many many times before but I couldn't find anything specifically about my question.

Found out recently that my iron has been very low, probably for many years. Startes Ferrous fumerate on the basis that I'd read it was kinder than sulphate. It's causing me so much pain.

Has anyone found sulphate BETTER than fumerate?

I took spatone very happily in pregnancy but I don't think the levels of Iron that contains will do the job in the short term.

I found spatone really good as it's more easily absorbed than the tablets.

I have 2 sachets a day as ferritin was 6 and it's really helped

I can tolerate sulphate much better than fumerate. Everyone is different. There is also the option of ferrous gluconate.

it will take forever and a day to boost with spatone.

Thanks @TiredArse that's really encouraging

I’ve not got on with sulphate or fumerate. Now trying gluconate as (private) GP said it was typically more gentle on the stomach. She also said taking one 300mg tablet of it every other day is just as effective as daily supplementation for getting levels up but easier on your digestive system.

I tolerate gluconate the best too

Another vote for gluconate, the other two made me feel really ill but I was fine with gluconate
