Husband and I can't agree, tried to get gp appointment twice last week to check it but despite calling as soon as they open and waiting on hold for 50 mins they had no appts left both thu and fri so just debating on what to do about it

I'm not an HCP.
I'd say not, just needs bathing with salt water.

If it's hot, or getting redder, then you need to be seen.

Mine looked like this op - the gp said it was the start of an infection but gave me some antibiotic cream to nip it in the bud. The midwife disagreed though and said it would eventually nit togther ! I guess the midwife's were more used to seeing c section scars ? Either way get it checked if you're worried

Marshmallow87 · 19/03/2023 20:21

This actually looks okay to me. I’ve had two sections. I’d keep an eye on it. Get it aired as much as you can. Gently let shower wash over it but no soap etc. make sure you pat dry before getting dressed. I even used to pop a pad on it or a clean muslin to try keep the area dry.

if you notice any discharge, smell or redness though it’ll need checked. I’ve had fucidin cream both times with sections and it’s worked really well x

davegrohll · 19/03/2023 20:22

For comparison

davegrohll · 19/03/2023 20:23

Btw the midwife said the white stuff wasn't pus on mine, she said it was something can't remember but some kind of by product of blood

Bergmum · 19/03/2023 20:26

Doesn't look terribly infected. I've had 4 sections... Do you have any fucidin cream at home? I would try that if you have.

gemloving · 19/03/2023 20:27

I've had two and this looks sore to me, I don't know about infected but call your GP tomorrow x

HistoriaTrixie · 19/03/2023 20:28

There might be a bit of infection brewing at the leftmost end and right about in the middle. Can't do any harm by running it by the GP (or midwife?) to be sure - can you email the photos in? That might be easier than getting an in person appointment.

I had my last section 11 years ago and it still flares up now 🥺
Use warm salty water and keep clean and dry. It doesn't look too red and infected IMO (non clinical)

Bobbybobbins · 19/03/2023 20:48

You could always go to the pharmacist tomorrow for their view if you still can't get a GP appointment.

I'm really glad (well not glad but you know what I mean) that I am not the only one who has this! I was seriously thinking I was the only one!

Use lavender essential oil 3-4 drops in a small bowl of warm water. Lavender won't irritate the skin and is anti microbial - I was given this tip by my first postnatal midwife and it's seen me safely through C-section recovery 3 times now

bbyno2 · 19/03/2023 21:21

This is my second section and my first got infected but was late diagnosed so feel quite cautious. It's more sore now than a week ago but don't know if that's normal? I have tried to get gp appt twice as stated in my initial post, so don't hold out hope tomorrow but will try it was more is it worth me taking my baby and 3 y/o down to walk in Centre for hours to get seen or not if you get me!
