Red mark/hole on breast TMI pics sorry

Posting for traffic as not able to get hold of GP till the morning and am panicking, hoping for similar experiences/advice/a hand hold! Have also NC as this is personal.

I'd noticed a red mark on my breast weeks ago now, but am currently breastfeeding and thought it must have been from when baby tried to latch and accidentally got my skin instead of nipple- she's done this a couple times before when I've not been paying 100% attention to her position and left a little hickey like bruise so didn't think much of it but did notice it wasn't going away.

Initially the mark was a v small oval shape and not painful at all. I noticed over the weekend it had gotten bigger and today while changing it was sore as I took my top off so took a look and it's suddenly gotten a hole in the skin?! It's now formed a scab (gross sorry!) and is sore but I think that's just as it's like a freshly healing wound kind of pain.

Looking back I have noticed some breast pain- like a stabbing pain deep in the tissue that comes and goes every now and again but assumed it was something to do with breastfeeding as not at all constant or even that painful. Now I'm obviously assuming the worst, Googling everything and in a spin that I'm not going to see my baby grow up.

Will be calling GP for an appt first thing but just wondering has anyone else had similar and it been okay?

Breast abscess?

nats2010 · 14/03/2023 23:01

Looks like a small abcess that is starting to get infected. You need to keep it clean and will likely need antibiotics for it. If there is stuff draining from it then that is good.....better out than in. Ideally you need to see GP as soon as possible. Have you a minor injuries you can go to over the weekend?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/03/2023 23:02

Bathe with salt water and don't panic, I've had similar and it was just a spot. See GP asap.

I've had this (infected cyst) and the GP will see you immediately. I rang up about 3 pm and was seen at 5. This was Sept 2020 too so a bit of a shock after online everything! I wasn't BF but they want to be absolutely sure with breast lumps.

DoAWheelie · 14/03/2023 23:06

Looks like a cyst or abscess. It deffo needs looking at by a GP in case anti biotics are needed but it's nothing super serious. Keep it clean for now and try not to put any pressure or tight clothing against it as it can get very sore.

Thank you ladies, I was thinking abscess but I've not had mastitis and it's not been particularly painful at all which Dr Google says they are. Have an appt for this afternoon to get checked out so hopefully everything is okay.

I’ve had a lot of these! To be fair I rarely go to the GP with them any more as they do clear themselves up if you keep them clean. But as you’re breastfeeding may be best to get it looked at.
They’re really odd because the hole is always such a perfect little circle, usually a lot of stuff comes out of them when they burst and they’re very painful to the touch.
I was prescribed Dalacin T topical lotion. When one starts just dab a bit on a few times a day and it stops them getting bigger/infected x

drspouse · 15/03/2023 10:12

Mine are never painful themselves, only where they rub on my bra (a plaster over them sorts that out).

Ilikegreenshoes · 15/03/2023 10:39

I've had these before. Started when dd1 was breastfeeding and she's 13 now. Only one ever turned nasty, and that was because I tried to squeeze it! 😑

They always clear up by themselves.

aeb941 · 16/03/2023 14:30

Thank you everyone, saw the GP yesterday and they think it's def a skin thing not a cancer thing so panic over, been given a course of antibiotics and told to go back if they don't clear it up :)
