Had first mammogram about three weeks ago, have had a letter this morning asking me to reattend for further tests as my recent x-rays are "unclear". Does also say that a "substantial" number of women are recalled.

Nothing to worry about, right? (Can you tell I am worrying...)

@KnittingNeedles how did you get on - am hoping no news is good news?

Sorry forgot to update this thread as in my panic I’d posted in general health too.

I was in bits at the screening centre and everyone was so kind. Had another mammogram then saw a doctor who explained my breasts are “dense” so they couldn’t get a clear image, which they got on the second mammogram. All clear. So so relieved.

I’ve also been asked to take part in a clinical trial into screening alternatives for us dense-breasted women to look at whether MRI or contrast testing can help reduce these stressful call backs and improve detection.

@KnittingNeedles what fantastic news for you I am so relieved for you. Was thinking the worse with the radio silence Flowers

Thrilled to read this @KnittingNeedles 💐

Very pleased all is ok but honestly what mental torture women have to go through, I really wish women could have a mammogram and it’s looked at there and then and you are told of any issues while you are there and what follow up will be required, rather than have the test, wait anxiously for 2 weeks and then find out when the letter drops on the mat that ‘something’ is wrong but you are given no indication as to what is wrong, why couldn’t they say in your letter unsuccessful mammogram so needs to be repeated? The system needs an overhaul, no woman should be put under such stress and anxiety.

Great news OP !
I also have dense breasts , when I had my mammogram I also had an ultrasound, so then the two images get compared. I went private to speed it up as I had some redness I was concerned about, so I am not sure if it is standard, but the sonography had the mammogram images to look at while she scanned me.

I very much agree with you, @LadyVictoriaSponge . I’m sure women would be happy for their appointment to take an hour rather than in and out in 10 minutes and wait for the letter in the post. Even the radiographer who did the second mammogram used terms like “area of concern” which terrified me.

@KnittingNeedles sadly wasn't so good for me. They saw a cluster of calcifications so I had a biopsy. It really wasn't pleasant - the biggest one was 5mm - with the amount they sucked out I would have thought it was all gone but I have an appointment with the surgeon on the 12th as I'm away the week before. I asked if I could ring through for results as they will be back when I'm away and they said no. But they did still say they could be benign. So am back in limbo with the dreaded wait. Thank you for checking in on me. I have only told 2 people in real life.

I have everything crossed for you, @Whattown .
