Please talk to me if you're in peri menopause and you are late 30s

I'm desperate to hear from anyone who is confirmed peri and in their late 30s.

Everyone I speak to, Dr, friend or other healthcare professional are all very dismissive and keep telling me it's PMS.

I know it isn't.

I'm 37 about to turn 38 and something has changed in me in the last few months.

This isn't PMS. I've lived with that my whole life, it's gone up a gear...or three!!!

Please help x

Apologies, I know there are probably a few of these threads out there...

I’m early 40s and I’m definitely going through peri now….

Mateyduck · 13/03/2023 19:49

I have weird sleeping pattern, insomnia, hot flushes, mood swings and period starting to dot about. It’s crazy. I’m hating it.

IwasToldThereWouldBeCake · 13/03/2023 20:02

Peri can last for 7 to 10 years, you could well be in peri.

At almost 44, I think I m almost there, time will tell, but I think I m over the worst of peri.

Vigorous walking/exercise will help

BigMacExtraPickles · 14/03/2023 00:07

Thanks ladies. Your replies are appreciated.

My gut instinct tells me it's peri. I'm actually going to go onto Sertraline to see if it will help regulate my mood, I'm that desperate.

I do exercise plenty also.

The joys of being female.

I'm a bit older now - early 40s, but I was in peri since my late 30s.
Confirmed with a blood test so I've been on hrt for 9 months and it has hugely helped my anxiety and no more hot flushes.

floodbez1878 · 14/03/2023 12:54

Just turned 40 but issues since the birth of my daughter 2 years ago..night sweats, itching skin, horrible pmt, aching joints. just a loss of joy and felt so unattractive. Blood tests don't signal much but for a consultation with an excellent menopause doctor through my gp and on my third week of hrt. Aches went away overnight and my mood is a lot lot better. Seems to have shot my sleep to shit but I'll take that at the mo compared to being miserable. It seems to have transformed my relationship with my daughter too as I enjoy my time with her so much more

floodbez1878 · 14/03/2023 12:57

I would also say that I'm really healthy, don't drink, do yoga and hill walking every day, don't eat red meat etc. took a ton of vitamins and made a blind bit of difference. I don't think anti depression tablets make that much of a diff if it's hormone based as ultimately you need to replace those hormones. I've read all the cancer risks as well, no higher risk until after age of 50 when taking for 5 years or more

BigMacExtraPickles · 14/03/2023 23:25

My blood loss is off the chart too. So heavy and I would say period last all in all 10-14 days. I'm due to have coil fitted next month to see if that helps.

I'm a bitch at ovulation and a bitch beforehand and a birch when on! I say bitch, a shouty angry mess really. Highly irrational.

I keep hearing that blood tests aren't really useful as your hormones fluctuate so much throughout month that it's hard to take a reading?

Also, I was diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease in 2021 and I'm sure I've felt hormonal changes since then. It is an auto immune disease after all.

HRT is definitely something I would want but not sure what I can have due to IBD. Need to discuss.

Hi, I'm 38 and also feel the past three months something has changed. Been 7months since mirena coil (birth control ) periods all settled down into regular pattern after insertion. But recently, odd behaviour in periods, pms off the scale , always felt ovulation pain but feel like it worse. Low mood , self confidence through the floor. Think everyone doesn't like me and over anxious with colleagues at work. Had two teary moments at work at a situation I wouldn't normally have got upset. Total brain fog if it is that , like so forgetful, things I used to remember easily seems so difficult now. Tasks feels harder. Kids routine etc feel harder to deal with.

What is happening!!. Also people saying to me "you're too young". Is it worth the hormone test?

How've you got on with certraline?

Guttedme · 16/10/2023 23:04

The attitude I get is peri doesn’t exist.

So much is people’s opinion.

Aged 41 well sonographer am I near peri?
Well Guttedme, that’s the million dollar question isn’t it. Hopefully now you’ll be tested.
In whose dream? Don’t you know about the magic age of 45 if that exists.
But have to say meeting a private Gynae not once out of the lips came the word peri menopause. Only heard what happens when I was 51 or 52.

PinkArt · 16/10/2023 23:19

I'm 43 now and definitely had symptoms in my late 30s, I just didn't know it was peri as it was just before the public conversation about it got loud. Horrific flooding on one memorable period, night sweats, chin hair, upto 6 months between very light periods.
Despite now being just two years off the start of the 'normal' age range for menopause I've still been told I'm too young for peri this year. Doctors tend to listen more when I say my mum's meno was at 44, as there are genetic tendancies. If you've not had that conversation with your mum, it'd be worth finding out when hers was.

AmyJames85 · 17/10/2023 10:28

Yes same here!! So many people don't know what peri is and just think I'm talking about menopause. Like there's clearly a cut off point from normal.....to menopause. 🤷🤷Haha I guess a lot of women don't go through it either. Just bam, into menopause. Crazy how different we all are.
We are incredible I guess. So intricately different and titrated to our own. Minefield. Thank the lord there are people out there interested in enough to help us ....not enough yet though! We need menopausal talk at work don't we!?? I feel this would greatly help us all. As I know some women can't cope with work as there is no support.

TiredMumOrMidlifeCrisis · 20/10/2023 21:46

I only just turned 40 a few months ago but have had lots of peri symptoms for years! First saw my GP about this when I was 38, and he practically rolled his eyes at me and said I was too young.

Symptoms were:
PMS so bad before period that at times I was suicidal.
Anxiety/panic attacks.
Insomnia. Still don’t sleep much. Often wake at 2am and stay up until 5…
Joint pain
Oh and the brain… I seriously can’t remember anything. I forget I put food in the oven, and now have alarms on my phone to pick the kids up. The only positive thing about this is that I order things online, clothes etc, and when they arrive a few days later it’s like Xmas, as I don’t even remember ordering them! 🙈 Luckily I have been pleasantly surprised so far! 😂

Everything else about peri is shit…

Have not done hrt yet, mainly cause I forget to phone the freaking GP during phone hours cause I can’t remember it! 🙈 It sounds funny, but it is really messing with me. It’s like I’m constantly drunk… It’s quite scary.

good luck, to all of us! 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷

I finally got into GP yesterday. A Saturday!! Not at my usual GP surgery as they offered me a different practice as I couldn't get in. So I was thankful for that.

I was pleasantly surprised. I came into the GP consultant room and explained what's been going on and symptoms and that ive been keeping track of symptoms and periods on tracker.
and made sure I told the GP I've been talking a lot with other women who have gone through symptoms too and am not alone etc, but really can't keep going on like this.

He was really good and typed in a huge list of things to check in blood tests! The ones I remember were calcium, ferritin, iron, vit d, thyroid, some other ones can't remember now. But he said let's check everything first rule anything out before he checks hormones levels. So that's fair enough. He was older gp so wonder if that helps as probably heard it a lot in his experience and even wife may have gone through it. It made me think young GPs may not have had the exposure or seen much experience of it 🤷.

Anyway, will update you when I get all these blood tests. In the meantime, I've been having achy legs, like I've been running a lot or been at the gym or something (which I haven't). Struggling with my irrational hormonal mood swings. I don't even know why I said swings....as there isn't a swing....it's constant low mood and irritability. Really, honestly can't stand my kids and can't socialise with anyone at work. I just keep my head down, get on with what I need to get on with, go home then dread all the errands I have to do and teatime and bedtime. Then starts all over again. So glad there's others out there feeling the same as does make it slightly easier knowing we can rant on here , let it all out. Haha. 👍🙏
