Going grey at 24?!?!

Anyone else gone grey this early? Got my first grey maybe last year but now it's definitely a lot. My hair is dark so quite noticeable especially when I have my hair up which I do for work.
Wondering whether I should start dying it... I've never dyed it before. Would it be a mistake to start now, is it such a faff to keep up with?

Hi! I started going grey at 19, just like my mum and my sister. My mum was fully grey at 30, my sister is almost fully grey at 35 and I'm on my way there at 33 but I do get my roots done every 7 weeks.

I don't find it a faff as I enjoy a salon trip but it was a faff when I was using box dyes at home. Also, my mum dyed hers so frequently that she developed an allergy to dye and her scalp used to swell and go scabby... so something to bear in mind but it hasn't happened to me yet!

I'd suggest leaving it as long as you can stand before dying your roots then.

My sister grew hers out in lockdown as she couldn't afford to keep dying it and it's taken about 2 years for all the dye to grow.

I would avoid the dye and keep the grey. I started going grey at a similar age and don't dye my hair. Embrace the grey hair movement - will save you loads of time and money, plus you aren't putting a shed load of chemicals on your head. I stopped dyeing mine about 4 years ago and haven't looked back.

I got my first grey at 17. DH was 14. It's quite normal if your parent/s also started going grey quite young.

I didn't really 'need' to dye my hair to cover the grey until my early 30s, so it progressed very slowly. Definitely don't start now, for goodness sake. Most people your age will have a few, or will start to in the next five years. No-one cares, or will even be looking.

I'm now 41 and while I do still dye my hair, it's because I prefer my hair dark rather than because I don't like the greys. I tried growing it out during Covid and looked really washed out. Hopefully when I get older my skintone will suit grey more.

My first get was at 12. My DD was at 14. It runs in the family (cheers, Nan!).

I used to dye my hair with box dyes (all colours, had found with it). I am sad DD has some because she has the most beautiful russet-coloured hair...but she says as soon as she leaves school this year she'll probably dye it anyway. ShockConfused
