Mirena coil for heavy periods

Would you recommend the mirena coil for heavy periods? Since turning 40 my periods have become ludicrously heavy. Flooding and huge clots. It's really getting me down. I'm on my sixth pair of knickers today as I have leaked through super tampons and pads. Luckily I WFH but I'm bound to get caught out at some point if this happens every month.

I had one period after having the Mirena and that was it! So amazing to have a period free life after years of misery.

Mine settled down immediately but I think that’s unusual.

I got it done for the same reason and honestly I had an awful time with it. My periods were still just as heavy and I had such bad cramping I had to take weeks off work. Was taking the strongest pain meds I could get over the counter from the chemist for the cramps and I may as well have been taking smarties. It was horrendous. Was told by everyone that it would settle down. So I left it in (mainly because I was terrified of getting it out because I found the insertion very painful and fainted (I'd no kids at that point though)) and was still having a lot of chronic pain a year later. It really only settled pain wise 2 years in for me. Over which time I grew a little beard and had really bad mood swings around my period which I'd never had before. And my libido died a death. Honestly if I'd known how easy and painless it was to get it out I'd have done that much much sooner. I know lots of people say its amazing so I'd say give it a go but don't suffer with it if it's not right after a few weeks. For me the symptoms went away as soon as it was removed and I barely felt the removal.

I hated mine! No periods, but absolutely every period related symptom under the sun!
sore boobs constantly, constant period pain, massive appetite and cravings for sweets and carbs, acne, greasy hair the bloody lot I felt like I was going through puberty again. I think I’m the anomaly though as I do seem to be sensitive to hormonal contraceptives

good luck OP and I hope it works for you!

Literally the best thing ever for me. Wish I'd had one years earlier. Not had a period in 11 years.

Excellent sexual health doc who saw me initially said it's very personal tho. I'd never got on with the pill, so was expecting issues but other than taking a while to settle, all good.

I had one due to endometriosis. Stopped my periods completely but caused a lot of issues and had surgery to sort it out, deal with some of the attachments from the endo and had it replaced. Happened again and decided not to have another put in again. Had one for approximately 4 years overall, came out Jan 2021 and my periods have never come back properly. I now have irregular periods (though heavy before, they were also like clockwork) that often last only 1/2 days and gone from super tampons within the hour to being able to wear a regular one for several hours. Doctors don't care, they say my new situation is better than before.

If it works for you its life changing, but it doesn't agree with some people.
