Night sweats

Hi all
So I’ve been having regular night sweats every night for about a month now.
I’ve been on 4 course of antibiotics since January for 2 chest infections and 2 UTIs. So I just put it down to this.
However I did have a two week gap in between antibiotics and the high sweats continued.
I wasn’t that concerned until I stupidly googled it.
So I called my GP surgery this morning. I expected a phone call back today from the GP to discuss. But the receptionist called me back and said the Doctor wants you to see me this morning at 10.10am.
Now I am really bloody worried! =( help!

Don’t panic! Sounds like you have a doctor who’s on top of things and looking after you.

Are you worried about something in particular? Let me talk you down.

I had night sweats when I was taking sertraline.
As pp said, it's good your gp is on top of it, good luck.

Thanks for you reply. I’m worried it’s a sign of something sinister!
I Saw the GP today she asked lots of questions did my observations etc. she isn’t particularly worried but wants a full MOT of bloods to check me over. So I am going back to have those Friday morning. Annoying they couldn’t do them while I was there today but never mind! I feel a bit better after seeing and speaking to her

They are quite often hormonal.

I had them after DC3 for a year 🙄 and returned as soon as peri-menopausal in my very early 40s

Bekindbekind · 28/02/2023 21:12

@Mumma2Ro I’m a cancer survivor and never had them prior to diagnosis or during treatment. I’m aware that Google links them to cancer; absolutely no idea how accurate this is though (if at all).

I definitely had night sweats during perimenopause and many of my friends do too. They can’t all be seriously ill 😉

I’m not trying to make light of your concerns, just pointing out that they’re most likely only unpleasant rather than a sign of something scary. Your doctor sounds proactive which is excellent. That’s the type of doctor you need. (Because I’ve had cancer, mine is extremely proactive and checks me out for every little thing. So far, nothing serious has showed up 👍🏻👍🏻. It’s always a little unsettling though.)

Thank you so much for your reply. Your reassurance has made me smile- you are so kind ❤️ I am so sorry to hear you’ve been through cancer but so amazing that you are a survivor. Such an inspiration

I have them sometimes I didn't know they were linked to anything nasty. I thought the main causes were hormones and meds. I'm on escitaloprám so I think mine are linked to that.

Grimbelina · 28/02/2023 22:14

I started having terrible night sweats in September after Covid and I have an underlying condition that raises my risk of lymphoma so GP immediately ordered lots of tests etc. and I have had a scan too: no cancer.

It seems my hormone levels (peri) were suddenly all over the place and now I have upped my oestrogen the night sweats stop (although come back if I miss a day). My GP said it was most likely to be hormonal and was proved right.

Grimbelina · 28/02/2023 22:15

Also, my husband has had them for years on and off with nothing sinister found.

Mumma2Ro · 07/03/2023 21:41

UPDATE
so all the bloods that were taken came back as normal so the GP isn’t concerned and says no need to investigate further
