I got my lashes done yesterday and during the process I felt like I had glue in my eye whilst she was doing it, it honestly hurt so bad.
I told her after as my right eye was so so red, she said as long as the pain is not coming from the root of my eyelash it is fine and it will go and she said to use eye drops, I've been using eye drops in this eye but it's so painful, it's not an allergic reaction as I've had them done several times now and had a patch test beforehand, I'm a bit worried as it's so red it's almost my entire eye that is blood shot red. Will this go in a few days like my lash tech said? Do I need to call my doctor? It does not hurt that I feel I need to go a&e but it's worrying me a bit

I think you should get it checked out by someone medical, do you have a minor injuries? That or an and E or an optician. I wouldn’t listen to a lash technician, she doesn’t have medical training.

pawz · 27/02/2023 14:48

If you are in zero pain, I'd probably pop into a pharmacy to check. Pharmacists should be able to advise or point you in the right direction 😊

If actual glue had got into your eye I think it would be glued shut or very painful - however the fumes from the glue can definitely make your eyes go very red!

It is about 5/10 for the pain in my eye, I've never experienced pain like that during an eyelash treatment it hurt a lot, I think this will be the last time I get them :(

I wrote to my GP and they clearly didn't read my issue... they just sent me a link to specsavers.... I'm pretty sure this is a chemical burn

If you think it's a chemical burn I would go to hospital (or a minor injuries clinic at least). Failing that are you near a Specsavers?

Do I need to go a&e for a chemical burn? Online I've seen people say it goes after a few days - it's just really really red. There's no visual disturbance or swelling just very red and uncomfortable

specsavers should be able to look at your eye and tell you - the opticians who do this are well trained,- I would give it a go - I was sent a link a while ago as well for an eye issue and they saw me the same day and advised me.

shopmyfeelings · 27/02/2023 15:33

I agree with going to the optician. They will soon tell you if you need to go to your GP or A&E.

Hey!

Sorry if this isn't helpful I just noticed you mentioned above it's definitely not an allergic reaction as you've had them several times and a patch test. Unfortunately it does sound like the start or a mild allergic reaction:( speaking from experience I was having my lashes done for almost 2 years they'd go quite red and sometimes my eyes would water a lot (this was a reaction for me but I never really clicked on) and then one appointment suddenly they were stinging and watering very badly and afterwards they were extremely blood shot a lot worse than normal and later on my lash line started to itch and swell slightly. I was so confused and after going again to see the reaction this time and then once more using the sensitive glue it happened both times. Yours sounds mild on the scale to me but allergic reactions can start mild and they get worse each time... so just an fyi as a devastated no longer lash girl you can develop allergic reactions at any time:( my advice is to go and have them done one more time and if the reaction is the same/worse you know it's that. She also put only a few on to check almost the same as a patch test I guess and it barely did a thing so it's the quantity of glue that gets me which is why patch tests aren't always very telling!!

underneaththeash · 27/02/2023 15:41

Optician is the best idea, we can have a look at the extent of any damage with a special microscope and dye (that the GP won't have).

Quoting myself here, I don't want you to cause any damage to your eye and everyone reacts differently so I'm sure the professionals won't advise to get them done again and I totally agree why but this for me was the only way to find out if it was an allergic reaction or not. ( Opticians etc. please don't come for me for telling her to get them done again to see!!!!! 😬🤣)

Thank you, I'm not going to get them done again after yesterday tbh, it's not worth this pain - how long did yours take to go? I feel a bit silly going a&e for this as I've seen so many people online say it goes after a few days but I also have anxiety so :( would anti histamine help?

Ca9622 · 27/02/2023 15:51

Not a problem at all! Well I got so irritated the first time I literally had to rip them out and clean my eyes thoroughly to remove the glue and then I took some anti histamine and it stopped with a few hours I think this was a long time ago. Again ripping them out is terrible for your lashes and also after paying so much money it's the last thing you want to do but I was desperate and it was the evening so I couldn't go and get them removed. If I was you I'd take an anti histamine and get back to your lash lady to have them removed. I just don't want you to not try and treat it as an allergic reaction as it definitely could be!! I totally understand the anxiety and it's horrible not knowing. Regardless I think getting them removed is your best bet and a lot of people are saying a trip to your opticians is a good idea if you can get there x

Thank you, wouldn't it be both eyes if it was a reaction? My left eye is completely fine no redness at all which is so odd, the right eye is red, cold compress really really helps aswell but redness is obviously still there

So I actually just removed them myself... I think it is an allergic reaction, I didn't see because my lashes were so long but my right eye where the lashes where is very swollen and red. I guess I can't get them done anymore :(

Yeah oddly one of my eyes was much worse than the other... allergic reactions are funny things really and very annoying!! I'm glad you got them off, hopefully you will see an improvement soon especially with an anti histamine. Sorry you've experienced this it is upsetting I know, it sounds silly it's only eyelashes but they can be a big boost and a lovely thing to have done I really miss mine. A nice lash serum and a good mascara can sometimes fill the void! Obviously if they continue to get worse even after taking them off and cleaning them deffo go get it checked out x

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 27/02/2023 17:17

I had this, it was the black glue, she changed to clear and I’ve had no problems.

Just keep bathing it without getting wet
