Pre period/period nausea and vomiting

Does anyone ever get this?

I never had it until about two years ago when I had two days of throwing up due to pain. And now I get the odd day of being sick from cramps while on my period and the odd days of nausea (no sick) before/during my period even without cramps. Usually accompanied by a really sore head that doesn’t shift!

Any tips? I’m never really sure what to do about it and just have to wait for it to pass.

Yes, every cycle after the age of about 17. Mine was brought on by severe pain, and I was diagnosed with endometriosis at 28.

I was told some years later by a gynae, that although you may feel cramps, periods should NOT be painful, and this is a warning sign something more significant may be happening. If this applies to you, then please insist on a referral from your GP.

Good luck. 💐

Thanks - and sorry you struggle too!

It’s just so frustrating isn’t it. I’ve had heavy/painful periods since they started but the GPs just seem happy to palm you off with the pill or painkillers!?

I went to the GP after the two days of being sick from pain and the nurse gave me painkillers and said the GP wouldn’t do any thing unless the painkillers didn’t work during my next period. Even when I said I had never ever experienced anything like it and I literally couldn’t move for the best part of two days!

Please make sure you insist your GP refers you to a gynaecologist. Do not let them fob you off. They obviously don't know what's causing this, and can't just put it to down to "periods", therefore they have a duty to refer you. Stand your ground and if they still refuse, put in a complaint.

Being in so much pain you're regularly vomiting during periods just isn't on. I don't know if you've seen a female GP, but if not that may help.

I got to the point I was literally passing out regularly from pain, and luckily my ex had private health cover which was how it was finally diagnosed. But mine was left so late it's caused me severe irreversible damage, so it shouldn't be ignored.

If you can afford a couple of hundred pounds, I'd recommend a private consultation. They would then move you into the NHS for treatment. If you decide that's possible for you, drop me a PM and I can recommend some excellent ones.

Good luck. 💐
